Pallet stackers do the work a pallet jack can't: lifting a load up into racking, onto a mezzanine, or onto a stand without the cost, weight, or footprint of a sit-down forklift. This collection holds 116 stackers and order pickers — counterbalanced, straddle, side-shifting, reach, and manual models — from EKKO, Vestil, GNT, Ballymore, and EOSLift, priced from $135 to $42,224. Compare by lift height, rated capacity, chassis type, and power source below, then check your aisle width, ceiling clearance, and floor condition before you buy.

A pallet stacker is a walk-behind or stand-on truck that lifts a palletized load high enough to place it in racking, on a mezzanine, or on a stand — work a low-lift pallet jack cannot do. Against a sit-down forklift, a walkie stacker is narrower, lighter on the slab, and cheaper to run, but it travels at walking speed and is built for short moves rather than long hauls. You trade travel speed and outdoor capability for aisle access, lower weight, and a lower purchase price. What separates the models below is how the truck supports the load and whether the operator rides up with it.
| Type | How it carries the load | Best for | Example in this collection |
|---|---|---|---|
| Counterbalance walkie stacker | No front legs; chassis and battery offset the load | Closed-bottom pallets, skids, containers, dock work | EKKO EK14, 118" lift, 3,300 lb |
| Straddle stacker | Outrigger legs straddle the pallet beneath the forks | Open-bottom stringer pallets, tight aisles, high lifts | EKKO EB16EA, 216" lift, 4,400 lb |
| Side-shifting models | Fork carriage shifts left and right to line up a bay | Racking where you cannot reposition the truck | EKKO EK13S-177, 177" lift, 2,860 lb |
| Reach stacker | Carriage reaches forward past the support legs | Placing loads beyond the leg footprint | Eoslift LR20, 4,409 lb |
| Order picker | Operator rides the platform up with the forks | Case and piece picking from elevated rack | EKKO EOP70, 2,200 lb, 196" lift |
| Manual / semi-electric | Hand or foot hydraulic lift, manual push | Low-cycle lifting, wash-down and clean areas | Vestil Stainless Steel Manual Load Stacker |
This is the first decision, and your pallets decide it, not your budget. A counterbalance walkie stacker has nothing in front of the forks, so it can pick up a closed-bottom container, a crate on runners, or a load sitting flat on the floor, and it can drive right up to a rack face or trailer edge. The cost is length and weight: the chassis must carry enough counterweight to offset the load.
A straddle stacker puts two outrigger legs on the floor under the forks, so the load sits inside the wheelbase rather than out in front of it. That geometry buys more height and capacity per pound of truck — several models here reach 216" — but the legs have to fit under or around the pallet and need a clear floor path. If you handle mixed pallet styles, adjustable-width legs or a side-shifting carriage, like the G44CS-Li lithium side-shift straddle stacker, cover more of the mix than a fixed-leg truck.
Order pickers solve a different problem. Instead of lifting a pallet to a rack level, they lift the operator to the inventory so cases can be picked by hand. This collection includes the EKKO EOP70 at 2,200 lb and 196" of lift, the Eoslift LH10 in duplex (108.66") and triplex (177.16") mast versions, the Ballymore LIAM, and GNT lithium models — the GOP10T-Li is rated 1,000 lb with raised-height options of 196", 275", and 374". Buyers searching for a "Ballymore machine" or a "Ballymore electric ladder" usually land on this class of equipment; the Ballymore units here are order pickers and electric pallet stackers, including the BALLYPAL35TSL157 with 45" forks, 157" lift, and 3,500 lb capacity.
Two rules apply here that do not apply to a walk-behind stacker. OSHA 1910.178 governs powered industrial trucks including order picker trucks, and OSHA has interpreted it to require fall protection for an operator riding an elevating platform. ANSI/ITSDF B56.1, the safety standard for low-lift and high-lift powered industrial trucks, sets the design and operating requirements for this equipment. Plan for a harness and anchor point, and plan the aisle so the truck is never asked to travel elevated over uneven floor.
Three numbers decide whether a pallet stacker will actually do your job, and they interact.
Truck weight is the number buyers skip. The EOP70's service weight with battery is 6,600 lb before any load — check that against a mezzanine, freight elevator, or trailer floor rating before delivery day.
Most of this collection is electric, and the real split is lithium versus traditional lead-acid. Lithium models, including the EKKO Li series and GNT's Li line, accept opportunity charging during breaks, need no watering, and hold voltage more steadily through a shift, which suits multi-shift operations. Lead-acid costs less up front and is fine for single-shift work that charges overnight. OSHA 1910.178(g) sets requirements for battery charging installations — ventilation, fire protection, and facilities for flushing and neutralizing spilled electrolyte — which is why a lead-acid fleet needs a designated charging area. Confirm charger input voltage against your available circuit; some units, such as the GNT GOP10T-Li, ship with a matched lithium charger.
Floors matter as much as batteries. Polyurethane wheels, standard on many trucks here, are built for smooth interior concrete and are not made for asphalt, gravel, or a rough dock plate. Check floor flatness, drain grates, ramp grade, and the turning space at each aisle end. Straddle legs need a clear floor path, and a counterbalanced truck needs room for its full length.
OSHA 1910.178(l) requires employers to train, evaluate, and certify operators of powered industrial trucks — walkie stackers and order pickers included — before they operate one, with re-evaluation at least every three years. OSHA 1910.178(q)(7) requires trucks to be examined at least daily, or after each shift when used around the clock, and taken out of service if any condition affecting safety turns up. Neither obligation disappears because the truck is walk-behind.
The mistakes we see most: buying to the pallet weight instead of the heaviest load plus its pallet; buying maximum lift height instead of the height the building allows; ordering a straddle model for closed-bottom containers it cannot straddle; and ignoring the truck's own footprint in a narrow aisle. Specialty requirements are worth naming up front — the Vestil range here includes an adjustable powered stacker with an integrated scale and fully powered bale clamp models that a standard fork carriage cannot replace. List prices across this collection run from $135 to $42,224, so the gap between a well-specified truck and a wrong one is real money.
