Buckets

Shopping for cheap lift buckets and compact tractor buckets comes down to three things: how the attachment mounts, how thick the steel is, and what you actually dig. Vovlift carries three Loflin Fabrication attachments for compact tractors and skid steer loaders, priced from $320 to $553. The lineup includes a 12-inch-wide, 60-inch-long stump bucket with a 1/2" x 6" cutting edge and three replaceable Pengo 2300 teeth, plus low profile buckets offered in 36" to 48" sizes with 3/16" steel sides and bottoms. Match the mount first, then compare cutting edge and plate thickness.

Compact Tractor Buckets and Cheap Lift Buckets: What You Are Actually Buying

Buyers searching for cheap lift buckets usually want the same thing a contractor wants: an attachment that mounts to the loader arms of a compact tractor or skid steer, survives abrasive work, and does not cost more than the job is worth. A bucket is a wear part. It gets dragged over gravel, loaded with wet material, and pried against roots, so the specifications that matter are the ones that decide how long it stays straight — plate thickness on the sides and bottom, the cross-section of the cutting edge, and whether wear bars protect the underside. Everything else is fitment.

The second thing to settle is the shape of the work. A narrow stump bucket concentrates the machine's breakout force into a small footprint so it can pry roots, rocks and buried debris out of the ground. A low profile bucket has a shallow entry angle and a wide mouth, which suits scooping loose material, backdragging and rough grading, loading a trailer, and moving mulch or spoil. Owners who try to cover both jobs with one attachment are usually unhappy with the compromise, which is why most compact tractor owners end up with a digging attachment and a general-purpose bucket.

The Loflin Fabrication Buckets in This Collection

All three attachments in this collection are built by Loflin Fabrication, with prices running from $320 to $553. Here is how the published specifications compare:

Note that the listing titled The Loflin Fabrication Compact Tractor Backhoe carries a spec sheet describing a low profile skid steer bucket, so confirm the exact configuration on the product page before you order.

Mounts and Couplers: Settle This First

The most common ordering mistake is buying on price and width without confirming the interface. Two families show up in this collection. The stump bucket is listed for Toro Dingo and Bobcat MTSO mounts or custom fabrication, which is the mini skid steer and compact utility loader world. The low profile buckets use a quick-attach plate, the flat-face coupler that most skid steers and compact tractor loaders share.

Quick-attach plates are broadly interchangeable but not universally so. Before ordering, measure the top hook spacing and lower pin locations on your machine's coupler, photograph the plate, and check whether your loader uses a mechanical or hydraulic latch. If your tractor has a pin-on loader rather than a quick-attach coupler, you either need an adapter plate or a custom mount. Loflin Fabrication lists custom mounts on the stump bucket, so ask before assuming a swap will bolt up.

Steel Thickness, Cutting Edges and Wear Bars

Thickness is where price differences show up. The stump bucket is the heavier build here at 1/2-inch reinforced plate with 3/8" side plates, because prying against buried wood and rock loads the sides in ways a loading bucket never sees. The low profile buckets use 3/16" steel on the sides and bottom, appropriate for scooping and carrying, with an optional 1/2" wear bar package.

Wear bars matter more than most first-time buyers expect. Backdragging and scraping wear the bottom skin, not the cutting edge, and replacing a worn bar is far cheaper than rebuilding a bucket floor. Teeth follow the same logic: the stump bucket's three Pengo 2300 teeth are replaceable, so the consumable is the tooth rather than the bucket. If you work in sand, crushed stone or demolition debris, spec the wear protection up front.

Matching a Bucket to Your Machine and Site

Weight hung at the end of loader arms reduces what the machine can lift and shifts the balance point forward, so a heavier bucket is not automatically the better bucket. On skid steer loaders, SAE J818 defines rated operating capacity as 50 percent of tipping load, and that figure already assumes the attachment weight is part of the load. Check your machine's rated capacity with the attachment you plan to run, and add rear ballast on a tractor if the manufacturer's manual calls for it.

Site conditions decide the rest. Wide buckets fill faster but stall a low-horsepower machine in dense material; narrow buckets dig better and carry less. The stump bucket is listed for tractors up to 40 HP, which is the practical ceiling for that attachment. Also check gate widths, tree spacing and trailer deck width before choosing a 48" bucket over a 36".

Safety, Standards and Upkeep

OSHA 1928.51 requires rollover protective structures and seat belts on agricultural tractors operated by employees, with the exemptions spelled out in the rule itself, and OSHA 1926.602 covers material handling equipment used on construction sites. A loader bucket is not a work platform — OSHA 1926.453 governs aerial lifts, and riding in or working from a bucket is not an accepted substitute for equipment designed to elevate people.

Upkeep is simple. Inspect welds at the cutting edge and side plates after hard digging, replace worn teeth before the tooth pocket erodes, grease coupler pins on schedule, and touch up chipped powder coat so bare steel does not start rusting under the paint.
