It lets an operator swap buckets, thumbs or breakers without driving pins by hand. An adapter goes a step further: it changes the attachment family the machine can accept. The Amulet XBOOM Excavator To Skid Steer Adapter System puts a skid steer attachment interface on the end of an excavator boom, so loader tooling already in the yard can run off the excavator instead of being bought twice.
The XBOOM is offered in seven excavator weight classes, from 1.5–1.7 ton machines through 5.4–6 ton machines, with mount options for a blank weld-on plate, wedge-style coupler, pin-on / pin-grabber-style coupler, or Wain-Roy / cross-pin-style coupler. Adapter plate choices are Mini Walk Behind, Mini-Universal and Standard Universal — pick the one that matches the attachments you already own, not the one that looks closest to the machine.

The Mini-Hitch is the simpler tool: mechanical, pin-puller, T-1 steel, offered in six configurations, and rated for machine weights up to 18,000 lbs, which covers backhoe loaders as well as mini excavators. Choose it when you are staying inside the excavator attachment family and just want faster changes. Choose the XBOOM when the goal is running skid steer tooling off the boom.
Fitment is decided by make and model, not tonnage alone; Amulet publishes a fitment chart, and both products are sold against listed makes and models. Confirm pin diameter, pin centers and stick width before ordering. On safety, ISO 13031 is the international standard covering quick couplers for earth-moving machinery and the risk of unintended attachment release, and OSHA 1926.602 addresses material handling equipment on construction sites. A manual coupler gives you no indicator light, so the operator has to visually confirm lock engagement and crowd the attachment against the ground before working. Any coupler or adapter also adds length between the stick and the attachment, increasing reach and reducing effective capacity — work from the machine's load chart with the coupler installed.
