What Yardbeast Makes

Yardbeast produces gas-powered chipping and splitting equipment for landscape contractors, tree crews, municipal grounds departments, ranches and firewood producers. Every one of the 11 machines we stock runs a Kohler engine — CH395, CH440, CH640, CH742 or Command Pro CH752 V-twin, depending on model — and every unit is a self-contained wheeled or towable machine rather than a tractor-mounted attachment. The catalog divides cleanly into two groups: chipping equipment spanning 2.5 to 7 inches of capacity, and the LZ log splitter series at 25, 32 and 40 tons. Eight of the eleven machines chip; three split.

The Chipper and Chipper/Shredder Range

Capacity and feed method are the two decisions that separate these machines. The smaller units are gravity or self-feeding and are sized for brush, limb wood and storm cleanup. The 7027 is the only machine in the range with a powered hydraulic feed system.

The 2510, 2050, 2090 and 3514 occupy the light-to-mid duty end. The 2090 shreds with 24 steel hammers and 6 Fullshred flails behind a wide-mouth hopper and rides on 15-inch pneumatic wheels; the 3514 is also offered in an ATV tow-behind configuration for properties where the work is spread out. The 4521 steps up to a 20.5 HP V-twin with electric start, gravity self-feed, two reversible dual-edge hardened tool steel blades, a heavy-gauge welded steel chassis and a discharge chute that rotates through 270 degrees.

The 6525 and 7027 are the production machines. The 6525 is self-feeding, with reversible hardened steel chipping blades, oversized bearings, a heavy-duty steel frame and a powder-coated finish, backed by a 2-year limited warranty. The 7027 replaces gravity feed with an electronically controlled hydraulic system driving a 10-inch, 8-bearing feed roller carriage rated to 2,500 ft-lb of torque, and adds cyclonic air filtration for dusty, all-day work. If you are feeding continuously rather than intermittently, that hydraulic feed is the reason to move up.

The LZ Log Splitter Line

Three splitters cover most firewood work. The LZ-305 delivers 25 tons of splitting force and is the entry point in the series. The LZ-505 produces 32 tons from a Kohler Command Pro 14 HP engine and a 22 GPM two-stage pump, with an 11-second cycle time and a 3/8-inch beam. The LZ-705 is the largest at 40 tons, running a Kohler CH640 20.5 HP Command Pro V-twin rated at 35.7 ft-lbs of torque, a 28 GPM two-stage pump, a 9-second cycle time, a 1/2-inch heavy-duty steel beam and ST205/75D15 tires.

Both the LZ-505 and LZ-705 operate in horizontal and vertical positions, which matters when rounds are too heavy to lift onto a beam. Cycle time is the number to watch if you split volume: over a full day, the LZ-705's 9-second cycle against the LZ-505's 11 seconds compounds into a meaningful difference in cords processed. Both carry a 3-year commercial Kohler engine warranty.

Matching a Machine to the Work

Size the chipper to the largest material you handle regularly, not the largest you have ever handled. A 2.5- or 3-inch machine suits residential property maintenance, hedge and brush work, and seasonal cleanup. The 3.5- and 4.5-inch machines fit crews doing recurring pruning and small removals. The 6.5- and 7-inch machines are for tree services and municipal crews producing chips daily, where feed rate and uptime drive the economics.

Site constraints matter too. The tow-behind and wheeled configurations move around a property under ATV or truck power; if your access is tight or the machine has to travel between job sites, check hitch and footprint details on the individual product page. On the splitting side, choose by round diameter and species — knotty hardwood and larger diameters are what push a buyer from 25 tons to 32 or 40.

Chipper operation in tree care work is governed by ANSI Z133, the American National Standard for Arboricultural Operations, which covers feeding practices, guarding and operator positioning. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) enforces general machine guarding and personal protective equipment requirements on commercial job sites. Train operators on both before the machine is put into service.

The consumable and wear items to plan for are named in the spec sheets: reversible chipping blades on the 4521, 6525 and 7027, which can be flipped once before replacement; shredding hammers and Fullshred flails on the 2090; and hydraulic fluid and filters on the LZ splitters. Because the engines are Kohler across the line, engine service parts are widely available through Kohler's own dealer network as well as through us.
