Stretch Wrap Machines

Stretch wrap machines replace hand-wrapping with consistent, repeatable pallet containment, and this collection covers the range from a $229.98 hand-operated Quick Wrapper to powered turntable systems. All six lines here are Vestil, made in the USA and backed by a 1-year limited warranty. Choose by volume first: hand held stretch wrappers suit a few loads a day, while powered SWA pallet wrapping machines are built for steady dock throughput. Ramps, mounting brackets, film and NRTL approved electrical components are listed as separate options, so you can configure a machine around your dock layout, load sizes and material handling equipment.

Choosing Between Stretch Wrap Machine Types

Stretch wrap machines fall into three broad groups, and the right one is usually decided by how many pallets you wrap per shift rather than by price. Hand held stretch wrappers are operator-carried tools: the operator walks the load and controls film tension by hand. Semi-automatic turntable machines rotate the pallet on a powered platform while a film carriage travels up and down a mast; an operator loads the pallet, presses start, and cuts the film at the end of the cycle. Fully automatic systems add conveyor infeed and film cut-and-clamp so no operator handles the load at all.

Turntable machines are the common choice for mixed warehouse work. Rotary arm machines, where the load stays still and a film arm orbits it, are used when loads are too light or too unstable to spin safely. Orbital and horizontal wrappers handle long goods such as lumber, pipe and extrusions that will not sit on a pallet in the first place. Match the machine type to your least cooperative load, not your average one, because the awkward pallets are the ones that fail in transit.

Powered Stretch Wrap Machines (SWA) in This Collection

The Vestil SWA family is the largest part of this category. Vestil lists the machines and their options together under the same product line, so mounting hardware and consumables appear alongside the wrappers themselves. Verified examples from our catalog include the SWA-MST-FLR floor mounting mast bracket at $112.06, SWA-FILM stretch wrap at $149.80, the PLATF-MTG-CA carousel or scale mounting fee at $161.29, and steel approach ramps such as the SWA-R-60-AW, a 48 x 60 in. blue ramp at $1,208.55.

Two options are worth deciding on before you order. An approach ramp lets a pallet jack drive onto the turntable, which matters if there is no forklift stationed at the wrap point. The SWA-NRTL-COMP option supplies NRTL approved electrical components; NRTL refers to OSHA's Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory program for the testing and certification of electrical equipment, and some plants, landlords and insurers require it.

Material Pallet Stretch Wrap Machines and the Quick Wrapper

The Material Pallet Stretch Wrap Machines line lists two aluminum 24VDC units: the PEL-88A-D3-SWA at 72 in. for $3,606.89 and the PEL-100A-D3-SWA at 88 in. for $3,900.29. A 24 V DC machine runs from a battery rather than a fixed wall circuit, which is the practical reason to choose one — it can be positioned where you actually build pallets instead of where the outlets happen to be. Factor battery charging time and a charger location into the decision.

At the other end, the QW-1 Quick Wrapper is a hand operated unit listed at $229.98 with a 60 in. designation. It is the entry point for shops that wrap occasionally and want something more controlled and less tiring than wrapping straight off a roll.

Hand Held Stretch Wrappers for Low-Volume Work

The Hand Held Stretch Wrappers (SW) line covers the SW-HAND-WS Wrapstick pallet wrapper at $273.87 and SRF-18 film for hand held wrappers, 1500 ft, at $143.92. Manual wrapping stays the sensible answer when volume is genuinely low, when loads vary wildly in shape, or when wrapping happens in several places around a building rather than at one station.

The trade-off is consistency and ergonomics. Hand wrapping means repeated bending and walking around the pallet, and film tension changes with the operator and with how tired they are. Once the same person is wrapping loads all shift, a powered turntable usually pays for itself in film savings and fewer damaged shipments, not in labor alone.

Site Requirements, Power and Operator Access

Before you commit to a powered pallet wrapping machine, check three things at the intended spot: a flat, level floor for the turntable and mast, enough clearance for a forklift or pallet jack to approach squarely, and an appropriate electrical supply within reach. Leave working room on all sides so an operator can attach and cut film without stepping into the forklift path.

If a forklift or powered pallet jack loads the machine, that truck is a powered industrial truck: OSHA 1910.178(l) requires operator training, evaluation and refresher training, and ANSI/ITSDF B56.1 is the consensus safety standard covering low- and high-lift powered industrial trucks. The stretch wrapper itself is not covered by 1910.178, so follow Vestil's manual for guarding, lockout during film loading, and turntable clearance.

Film Selection and Common Buying Mistakes

Film is the recurring cost, so it deserves as much attention as the machine. ASTM D4649 is the standard guide for the selection and use of stretch wrap film, and it is a useful reference when comparing gauge, pre-stretch and containment force with a supplier. Standard US pallet dimensions matter too: the GMA pallet footprint, 48 x 40 in., is the one most machines and racking are laid out around.

Three mistakes come up repeatedly. Buyers size the machine to today's volume rather than to peak season, then hand-wrap the overflow. They skip the ramp, discover the pallet jack cannot reach the turntable, and order it later. And they assume stretch wrap secures a load for the road — it does not. FMCSA cargo securement rules in 49 CFR Part 393, Subpart I govern how cargo must be restrained on commercial vehicles; wrap holds a pallet together, straps and blocking hold it to the trailer.
