Forklift attachment work platforms turn a lift truck into a temporary elevated work station for stock picking, overhead maintenance and inspection work. This collection carries eight platform lines from Vestil, Star Industries and Bluff: fork-mounted safety cages, fold-down platforms, modular steel platform systems, Posi-Crank ergonomic platforms, stockpicker platforms, and the harnesses, hand rails and stop-button boxes that go with them. Individual accessories start under $200 and full platform systems run into the low thousands. Compare by rated capacity, deck size, how the unit secures to the carriage, and whether your crew needs a full mancage or a platform that folds flat between jobs.

A forklift attachment work platform is a railed steel deck that slides onto the forks and locks to the carriage so a lift truck can raise a worker instead of a load. Buyers usually reach for one because the work is occasional — changing a fixture, pulling a part from a top rack slot, inspecting overhead lines — and a dedicated aerial lift is hard to justify for a few hours a month. This is also the one case where the attachment is not optional: OSHA 1910.178(m)(12) allows elevating personnel on a powered industrial truck only when a safety platform is firmly secured to the lifting carriage or forks. The same paragraph requires a means for personnel on the platform to shut off power to the truck, and protection from falling objects where operating conditions call for it. ANSI/ITSDF B56.1, the safety standard for low lift and high lift trucks, covers the same territory in more detail.
The eight products here split into three practical groups. Enclosed cages and platforms carry one or two workers for overhead access. Modular systems build out a fixed elevated work station with rails and stairs. Accessories — harnesses, hand rails, stop-button boxes, caster kits — are sold alongside the platforms because most of them are required to put a platform into service safely.

Alongside the Vestil lines, the Star Industries Safety Work Platform (model 1204C) is a heavy duty steel platform rated at 1,000 lbs with a 4 ft x 4 ft deck, a net weight of 350 lbs, and size options in 4, 6, 8 and 10 ft. It carries guardrails, toe boards and self-closing gates, and mounts to a forklift, telehandler, skid steer or loader — useful if the same platform has to move between machines. The Bluff Forklift Safety Cage SG4048 is a 1,000 lb capacity cage for operations that want a fully enclosed mancage. A second Star Industries Industrial Work Platform rounds out the group. All Vestil lines listed here are made in the USA by Vestil Manufacturing and carry a 1-Year Limited warranty.
Rated capacity on a personnel platform covers the workers plus their tools plus the platform's own weight — it is not a load rating you can spend entirely on people. The Star 1204C, for example, weighs 350 lbs empty against its 1,000 lb rating, and that 350 lbs also counts against the forklift's own capacity at the height and load center you plan to work at. Check the truck's data plate at the elevated position, not at ground level, because residual capacity falls off as the mast extends and as the load center moves forward.
Deck size is the other constraint buyers underestimate. A 36 x 36 in deck is a one-person platform for a fixed task; the 36 x 108 in modular decks are for a work station, not for threading down a narrow aisle. Measure your aisle width, door heights and the fork spread the platform needs before ordering, and confirm the securing method — fork pockets plus a chain or bolt-through connection to the carriage — matches your truck.
Several items in this collection are accessories rather than standalone platforms, and that is deliberate. Vestil's WP-LH-S, WP-LH-M and WP-LH-L harnesses with lanyard are listed at $186.38 each and sized small, medium and large; OSHA 1910.140 sets the requirements for personal fall protection systems, including body harnesses and lanyards, in general industry. The WP-SB-FTJB fork truck stop button box at $176.10 is the hardware answer to the shut-off requirement in OSHA 1910.178(m)(12). PWPS hand rails such as PWPS-HR-36-YL start at $151.77, PWPS stair sections attach to modular decks, and WP-CAFD adds casters to a fold down platform at $131.76.
One point of confusion worth clearing up: pole attachments, platform attachments and load-handling attachments are different device classes. Carpet poles, boom poles and drum handlers move product; a work platform carries people and is governed by a stricter set of rules. Do not substitute one for the other.
Steel platforms need little upkeep, but they do need a look before each use: welds at the rail and gate joints, condition of the toe boards, the gate latch, the securing chain or pin, and the fork pockets for spread or deformation. Harnesses and lanyards get inspected for cuts, abrasion and stitching damage on the same schedule, and any component that arrested a fall comes out of service.
The mistakes are consistent. Buyers size the platform to the workers and forget the platform's own weight. They buy the deck and skip the harness and the shut-off control, then find the setup does not meet the requirements in OSHA 1910.178(m)(12). They assume any operator can run the truck — OSHA 1910.178(l) requires training and evaluation for powered industrial truck operators, and the person at the controls must stay at the controls while anyone is elevated. And they treat a fork-mounted platform as a substitute for an aerial lift on daily, all-shift work, where a mobile elevating work platform is the better tool.
