Guard rails and safety barriers protect people, racking, building columns and doors from the equipment moving around them. This collection covers 73 Vestil products: steel pipe and removable bollards, column protectors, machinery guards and rack guards, mezzanine safety gates, overhead door warning barriers, wire and driver cages, plus portable plastic, fabric and web barriers for temporary work zones. Prices run from $100 to $5,440, and every item is made in the USA by Vestil Manufacturing with a 1-year limited warranty. Compare by hazard type, mounting method, and how often the barrier needs to move.

Guard rails and safety barriers all answer three questions: what is being protected, what is likely to hit it, and how often the layout changes. A fixed rail in front of an electrical panel, a bollard at a dock door and a folding fabric barrier around a spill are all safety barriers, but they fail differently when misapplied. Start with the hazard. Vehicle impact calls for anchored steel with a sound foundation. Pedestrian routing calls for something visible and easy to move. Fall exposure at a mezzanine edge calls for a gate that keeps a rail in place at all times. This collection carries 73 Vestil products from $100 to $5,440, all made in the USA and covered by a 1-year limited warranty.

Impact protection is the largest part of this category. Steel pipe safety bollards, removable bollards, spring-loaded bollards and fold-down bollards all stop or slow a vehicle at a fixed point; the difference is what happens when you need the opening back. Fixed pipe is the strongest and least expensive per unit. Removable and fold-down versions trade some strength for access, which matters at fire lanes, trailer parking and bays opened a few times a month. Spring-loaded designs deflect and return rather than transmitting the full load into the slab, which suits low-speed nuisance contact in tight aisles.
Column protectors and rack guards work differently. They are sacrificial, absorbing and spreading contact so the structural member behind them survives. Building column protectors and heavy duty column protectors wrap the column itself; surface mounted low profile rack guards sit in front of upright frames at the aisle end, where most rack damage happens. Once an upright is dented, the bay is no longer what the rack manufacturer rated, and the fix is replacement rather than repair. Decorative options such as ductile iron, stainless steel and aluminum bollards, plus slip-on bollard covers, handle customer-facing entrances without changing the anchoring underneath.
OSHA 1910.28(b)(1) requires fall protection for general industry walking-working surfaces with an unprotected edge 4 feet or more above a lower level, and a pallet drop at a mezzanine edge is exactly that condition. The difficulty is the moment the rail has to open. A rotating or dual-panel gate keeps a barrier between the worker and the drop through the entire load cycle: as one side opens to receive a pallet, the other closes behind it. Our Rotating Mezzanine Safety Gate System, model MEZZ-R5-4848, is rated 5,000 lb at $1,792.81. The Mezzanine Safety Gates (MEZZ) family and Economical Safety Swing Gates (SSG) cover simpler openings such as stair access and ladder-way landings.
Overhead door warning barriers address a different failure: a mast or raised load striking a closed or partly opened door. The DWB series hangs ahead of the opening so the operator contacts a flexible barrier first. Four DWB models are listed between $738.97 and $858.91, in sizes from 8 x 8 ft up to 10 x 10 ft; DWB-88 covers an 8 x 8 ft opening at $738.97 and DWB-810 an 8 x 10 ft opening at $798.90.
Not every hazard is permanent. Maintenance work, spills, seasonal layout changes and open floor pits need a barrier that deploys in minutes and stores flat. OSHA 1910.176(a) requires that permanent aisles and passageways be kept clear and appropriately marked, and temporary barriers are how most facilities manage the exceptions. This collection includes folding fabric barriers, plastic barriers, interlocking traffic barriers, Expand-A-Gates, mobile safety barriers, web barrier stakes and Tensabarrier posts for queue control, plus manhole guard rails for open floor and utility openings. The Web Barrier Stakes cart system, WBS-CART-Y at $1,124.93, suits crews that redeploy a barrier daily. On the vehicle side, the BOL-PBB-P-56-Y portable base plastic bollard is a 56 in. unit at $598.98 that needs no anchoring, which is the practical answer in leased space or on a slab you cannot drill.
Wire cages and driver cages extend the same containment logic. Wire Cages (WPC) list seven models, including the three-sided, no-ceiling WPC-8X8-3NC at $3,265.05 and the four-sided WPC-8X8-4NC at $4,275.47. Driver cages list six models, starting with the two-sided WPC-D-4X4-2 at $3,970.94, and give delivery drivers a defined place to stand clear of live equipment during loading.
Most barrier failures are anchoring failures, not product failures. Steel bollards and surface mounted guards transfer load into the slab, so slab thickness, edge distance and reinforcement determine real-world performance. Anchor too close to a control joint or slab edge and the concrete cones out well below the hardware rating. Follow the anchor manufacturer instructions for embedment and edge distance, and confirm slab condition before ordering fixed-mount hardware. Where drilling is not possible, portable base and interlocking barriers are the honest alternative. Layout matters as much: leave enough offset that a deflected barrier still cannot reach the asset behind it, and keep pedestrian gaps usable. The ADA Standards for Accessible Design require a minimum clear width of 36 inches on accessible routes, which sets a floor for bollard spacing on any path people use.
Three mistakes repeat. The first is buying visual barriers for impact duty. Plastic barriers, fabric barriers and stanchions communicate a boundary; they do not stop a loaded lift truck. If a vehicle can reach the asset, the barrier in front of it needs steel and an anchor. The second is assuming a crash rating that was never claimed. Vehicle impact ratings for bollards come from ASTM F2656 and, for shallow-foundation designs, ASTM F3016; unless a specific model is tested and published to one of those standards, treat it as low-speed impact protection rather than a security barrier, and confirm the rating on the specification sheet before specifying it.
The third is skipping inspection. A bollard that has been struck is a data point: the anchors beneath it have already taken a load. Fold barriers into the same walk-through that covers racking and dock equipment, and replace bent or loosened units instead of straightening them. OSHA 1910.178 governs powered industrial truck operation and operator training, but no amount of training compensates for an aisle plan that forces traffic into blind corners.
