How to Choose a Table Scissor Lift

Choosing among table scissor lifts comes down to four questions: what you are lifting, how often you lift it, what utilities are available at the location, and how the load gets on and off the platform. Answer those in order and most of the catalog eliminates itself.

Duty cycle drives more of the decision than buyers expect. A table that raises a pallet a few times a shift can be a manual or pneumatic unit; a table that an assembly operator cycles continuously through the day should be powered, because a foot pump becomes the bottleneck and eventually a complaint. Load transfer matters just as much. If a pallet jack has to drive onto the platform, you need a low-profile deck or a pit; if a hoist or a jib places the load, deck height is less critical but the platform has to be sized for the load footprint plus clearance.

Power Sources for Scissor Lift Tables

Every scissor lift table in this collection uses one of a handful of drive types, and each one asks something different of the site.

Electric hydraulic is the default for pallet-weight loads. Linear-actuated and air bag tables are the usual answer where hydraulic oil is unwelcome — food handling, cleanrooms, paint areas. Pneumatic tables suit shops that already have air at every station. DC units, including the TM-22-DC above, go where running a cord is impractical.

Capacity, Platform Size, and Lift Range

Rate the table for the heaviest load it will ever see, not the average, and check that the load is centered. Off-center and end-loading conditions reduce what a scissor mechanism can safely handle, which is why manufacturers publish separate ratings for them — read the load chart on the product page rather than the headline capacity.

Platform size should suit the load footprint with room for the operator's hands. Capacities and deck sizes in this collection are model-specific: the EHLT-E-2448-2-41 is rated 2,000 lb on a 24"×48" deck, while the Portable Electric Hydraulic Lift Table w/ Attached Hoist (EHLTP) line spans 1,000–2,000 lb on a 30"×60" platform. Tilters, Turntables, Scales, and Attachments

Site Requirements and Installation

Scissor lift tables need a flat, sound floor. Surface-mounted units are the simplest install, but they leave the platform above floor level when lowered, so plan a ramp or use a low-profile cart if pallet jacks must roll on. Pit mounting gives a flush deck and the cleanest material flow, but it is construction work and the pit needs drainage and toe-clearance detailing. Portable and cart-style units skip site work entirely and are the right call for operations that reconfigure often or lease their space. Check overhead clearance at full extension, and confirm the drive matches the utility you actually have at that spot — an air table at a bench with no air line is a stalled project.

Safety, Standards, and Maintenance

ANSI MH29.1, the safety standard for industrial scissors lifts, is the reference that governs this equipment type; it addresses guarding, controls, and the requirement for a maintenance device to support the platform during service. That last point is the one shops skip. Never work under a raised platform on hydraulic pressure alone — use the maintenance prop or safety bar supplied with the table. OSHA 1910.147, the lockout/tagout standard, applies to servicing and maintenance on powered equipment, including these tables.

Routine care is minor but not optional: check fluid level and hoses on hydraulic units, inspect the scissor pins and bearings for wear, keep the pinch points around the scissor legs clear, and verify that skirting and guarding are intact. Train operators on load centering and on what not to do — riding the platform is the most common misuse, and these are load lifters, not personnel lifts.
