Mini excavator attachments turn one carrier into a trenching, grading, clearing and material-handling machine. This collection lists 17 excavator attachments from Amulet, Geith, Loflin Fabrication, Katool and Star Industries, priced from $615 to $13,400: hydraulic thumbs, digging and grading buckets, dual-ram tilt buckets, a mini auger, a brushcutter, a multi-tine rake, a severe-duty ripper, a manual quick coupler and an excavator-to-skid-steer adapter. Weight-class coverage runs from 1–3 ton compacts up through mid-size machines, so confirm your carrier weight, dipper pin diameter and auxiliary hydraulics before you order.

Mini excavator attachments sort into four jobs: digging, grading, grabbing and specialty work. This collection covers all four. Digging is handled by the Geith Heavy Duty Excavator Digging Bucket, the Geith MX Digging Bucket for Mini Excavators and the Star Industries Mini Excavator Bucket. Grading and slope work go to the Geith Mini Excavator Heavy Duty Grading Bucket and to tilt buckets from Geith and Amulet. Grabbing is covered by four hydraulic thumbs plus the Amulet HoeMate Multi-Tine Rake. Specialty tools include the Amulet Excavator Ripper – Severe-Duty, the Loflin Fabrication Mini Auger, the Loflin Fabrication Mini Excavator Brushcutter, the Amulet Mini-Hitch manual quick coupler and the Amulet XBOOM Excavator To Skid Steer Adapter System.
The useful question is not what exists but what your machine can carry. Attachment weight comes straight off your lift chart, and a heavy tool at full reach costs you more capacity than the same tool tucked in close. Buyers shopping mini digger attachments for the first time usually over-buy width and under-buy structure — a wide bucket on an undersized carrier digs slowly and beats up the boom.
Shoppers searching for an excavator claw almost always want a thumb. A thumb opposes the bucket so the machine can pick up brush, rock, pipe and demolition debris instead of only moving loose material. This collection carries the Geith Progressive Linkage Hydraulic Thumb (PL), the Geith Hydraulic Klamp Hydraulic Thumb (HK), the Amulet PowerClamp Hydraulic Thumb and the Amulet PowerBrute Hydraulic Thumb. If you want a ready-made excavator bucket with thumb rather than a separate tool, the Katool KT-EX20 pairs a reinforced steel digging bucket with a mechanical thumb on a crawler mini excavator with a B&S gas engine, listed as a standalone unit.
The design difference matters in the field. A mechanical thumb parks in fixed positions and is cheap and simple; a hydraulic thumb is adjustable through its full arc under power, which is what you want for sorting mixed debris or handling round stock. Progressive-linkage designs keep the thumb roughly parallel to the bucket teeth through more of the travel, so small items stay clamped instead of squirting out. Sizing is driven by carrier weight and dipper pin diameter: the Geith PL065, for example, is specified for machines of 24,251–30,865 lb (11.0–14.0 tons) with a 65 mm (2.6 in) standard dipper pin, while the PL070 steps up to 30,865–39,683 lb (14.0–18.0 tons) on a 70 mm (2.8 in) pin, with a maximum operating pressure of 172.5 bar (2,500 psi).
A digging bucket is narrow with teeth for breakout; a grading bucket is wide, toothless and shaped to leave a clean finished surface; a tilt bucket adds side-to-side rotation so you can cut ditch banks, swales and pads without repositioning the tracks. Tilt buckets earn their price on landscaping, drainage and finish work, where repositioning eats the clock.
The Geith Hydraulic Angle Excavator Tilt Bucket (Dual Ram) is published by machine class and width:
| Model | Machine class (tons) | Width | Capacity (cu yd) |
|---|---|---|---|
| AT04-1200 | 2 – 4 | 1,200 mm (48 in) | 0.24 |
| AT04-1350 | 2 – 4 | 1,350 mm (54 in) | 0.26 |
| AT04-1500 | 2 – 4 | 1,500 mm (60 in) | 0.33 |
| AT06-1200 | 4 – 6 | 1,200 mm (48 in) | 0.37 |
| AT06-1350 | 4 – 6 | 1,350 mm (54 in) | 0.37 |
The Amulet Excavator Tilt Bucket is offered across six excavator weight classes, from 1–3 ton excavators up to 10–15 ton excavators, in 36 in., 42 in. and 48 in. widths, with 13 configurations covering blank weld-on plate, wedge-style coupler, pin-on / pin-grabber-style coupler and Wain-Roy / cross-pin-style coupler mounts.
Rotating and cutting tools live or die on hydraulic flow, not on machine weight. The Loflin Fabrication Mini Auger lists a flow requirement of 6–40 GPM, a 2 in. hex output shaft on industry-standard sizing, an Auburn planetary drive, Parker hoses, fittings and couplers, 3/8 in. steel construction, and bit sizes from 4 in. to 48 in. diameter. Note its published mount compatibility — Toro Dingo, Bobcat MT50, 52, 55, S70 and RC30 — so confirm mounting for your specific carrier before ordering.
The Loflin Fabrication Mini Excavator Brushcutter is built around a Geroller hydraulic motor with multiple displacement options, a 3/8 in. heavy-duty steel housing, a one-piece heat-treated forged steel reversible blade and axle, a proprietary direct-drive system, bi-directional cutting, and working widths from 48 in. to 72 in. For ground engagement, the Amulet Excavator Ripper – Severe-Duty concentrates force at a single point for frost, hardpan and root cutting, and the Amulet HoeMate Multi-Tine Rake pulls brush and roots while letting soil fall through instead of hauling dirt you did not intend to move.
Most compatibility failures happen at the interface, not the tool. Three things have to line up: pin diameter and pin spacing, coupler style, and hydraulic supply. The Amulet Mini-Hitch Excavator Manual Quick Coupler speeds changeovers on machines without a hydraulic coupler; the Amulet XBOOM Excavator To Skid Steer Adapter System lets an excavator boom run skid steer-mount tools, which is worth pricing against buying excavator-specific versions of everything. ISO 13031 is the international safety standard covering quick couplers on earth-moving machinery, and any coupler you buy should have a positive locking method and a clear visual check that the attachment is fully engaged.
For powered attachments, confirm that your auxiliary circuit supplies the flow and pressure the tool calls for, that your couplers match, and that case drain is available if a tool requires one. Undersupplying flow makes a cutter or auger stall under load; oversupplying it overheats and shortens motor life.
OSHA 29 CFR 1926.651 requires that underground installations be located before excavation begins and that a competent person inspect excavations — call 811 before you dig on any US jobsite. OSHA 29 CFR 1926.602 covers material handling equipment used in construction, including rollover protection and seat belt requirements on earthmoving machines. If you plan to sling loads from the boom or a lifting eye rather than just dig, check the scope of OSHA's Subpart CC (29 CFR 1926.1400 and following), which governs equipment used to hoist loads in construction.
Maintenance is unglamorous and decides service life: grease pins and bushings on the interval the manufacturer specifies, watch for hose chafe where lines cross the stick, keep cutting edges and teeth replaced before wear reaches the shell, and store thumbs and tilt buckets so rams are not left extended and exposed. The three mistakes we see most often are buying by width instead of by weight class, ignoring dipper pin diameter when ordering excavator accessories like thumbs, and assuming every coupler standard is interchangeable. Verify the carrier's make, model, operating weight and pin dimensions before you order, and the rest of the decision gets simple.
