Mini excavator buckets take most of the abuse on a compact machine, and the right one comes down to the carrier's weight class, the coupler on the stick, and what you're digging. This collection covers digging, grading and tilt buckets from Geith, Star Industries, Amulet and Katool, priced from $615 to $13,200. Widths run from narrow trenching profiles to 60-inch tilt buckets, with pin-on, wedge, pin-grabber and Wain-Roy mount options, and models sized by machine class from 1-ton minis through the 10-15 ton range. Compare width, capacity and mounting before you order.

Start with the carrier, not the bucket. Every excavator bucket you hang on the stick is dead weight at full reach, so an oversized bucket costs you lift capacity and stability before it moves a single yard of dirt. ISO 10567 is the standard that defines how hydraulic excavator lift capacity is rated, and machine load charts published under it are the reference point for what your mini can actually pick up at a given reach and height. Bucket weight is the number to watch: the Star Industries Mini Excavator Bucket is listed at 305 lbs without teeth and 348 lbs in the toothed 910-36T configuration, while the Geith Heavy Duty H14 series buckets for 10-14 ton carriers run from 584 lbs to 1,235 lbs. On a small machine, a few hundred pounds at the end of the stick changes how the unit behaves on a slope. Match the bucket's rated machine class to your excavator's operating weight, then size for material.
Excavator attachments in the bucket family split into a few clear jobs. Digging buckets are narrow and deep with a toothed cutting edge, built to concentrate breakout force for trenching, footings and utility work — the Geith MX Digging Bucket and the Geith Heavy Duty Excavator Digging Bucket both sit in this group. Grading buckets (also called ditching, cleanup or mud buckets) are wide and shallow with a smooth edge; the Geith Mini Excavator Heavy Duty Grading Bucket uses a wide, shallow grading profile with a heavy-duty wear-resistant cutting edge for leveling, backfilling and finish work. Tilt buckets add hydraulic articulation so the cutting edge can be angled without repositioning the machine, which is what makes swale, ditch and shoulder work practical from one track position. The Geith Hydraulic Angle Excavator Tilt Bucket uses a dual-ram design, and the Amulet Excavator Tilt Bucket is offered in 36, 42 and 48 inch widths across six excavator weight classes and 13 configurations. Tilt buckets need an auxiliary hydraulic circuit on the machine — confirm you have one before ordering.
They are not. There is no single interchange standard across brands, and this is where most mismatched orders happen. A pin-on bucket has to match three dimensions on your dipper: pin diameter, the pin-to-pin (link) spacing, and the width between the ears. Coupler-mounted buckets have to match the specific coupler family — the Amulet Excavator Tilt Bucket, for example, is offered with a blank weld-on plate, a wedge-style coupler, a pin-on / pin-grabber style coupler, or a Wain-Roy / cross-pin style coupler, and those are not interchangeable with each other. The Geith Mini Excavator Heavy Duty Grading Bucket mounts with a standard coupler or pin-on. A blank weld-on plate is the fallback when your machine's mount is unusual: you weld your own bracket to a bare plate. ISO 13031 is the standard covering safety requirements for quick couplers on earth-moving machinery, and it is worth reading if you run a coupler fleet, because unlatched-coupler incidents are a recurring failure mode. Measure your machine or send us the make, model and coupler type before you buy.
Bucket capacity is rated two ways — struck (level with the edges) and heaped — and ISO 7451 defines how those volumetric ratings are measured for hoe-type excavator buckets, with SAE J296 covering the rating method specifically for mini excavator and backhoe buckets. Always compare heaped to heaped between brands. Width drives everything else: a trench bucket should be sized to the pipe or conduit plus working clearance, not to the biggest bucket the machine can swing.
| Geith H14 Model (10-14 tons) | Width (mm) | Capacity (m³) | Weight (lbs) |
|---|---|---|---|
| H14-0300 | 300 | 0.11 | 584 |
| H14-0500 | 500 | 0.21 | 752 |
| H14-0750 | 750 | 0.34 | 957 |
| H14-0900 | 900 | 0.42 | 1091 |
| H14-1100 | 1100 | 0.52 | 1235 |
On the tilt side, the Geith dual-ram units include AT04-1200 at 1200 mm (48 in) and 0.24 cubic yards for 2-4 ton machines, AT04-1500 at 1500 mm (60 in) and 0.33 cubic yards, and AT06-1200 at 0.37 cubic yards for 4-6 ton machines. Teeth are the other decision: teeth break hard ground and reduce the force needed per pass, while a smooth edge gives a clean bottom for grading and pipe bedding. The Star Industries series is offered in widths from 10 in to 36 in with replaceable digging teeth on T models and side cutters on SC models — side cutters add width at the corners and protect the shell from wear.
Before the bucket goes in the ground, OSHA 1926.651(b) requires that underground utility installations be located before excavation begins, which in most states means calling 811. OSHA 1926.651(j)(2) requires excavated spoil and equipment to be kept at least 2 feet back from the edge of an excavation, and OSHA 1926.651(c)(2) requires a ladder, stairway or ramp within 25 feet of lateral travel in trenches 4 feet or deeper. OSHA 1926.602 covers material handling and earthmoving equipment in construction generally. Wear life comes down to matching the bucket to the abrasive load: sand, rock and demolition debris eat cutting edges and shell bottoms far faster than clay or topsoil, so heavy-duty shells, wear strips and replaceable teeth pay for themselves on abrasive sites. Check tooth pins and retainers at every service interval — a lost tooth in a load of backfill is a real problem on a paving job.
We carry mini excavator buckets and excavator attachments from Geith (four models), Star Industries, Amulet Manufacturing and Katool, from $615 to $13,200. Geith covers the widest span here — MX and heavy-duty digging buckets, a heavy-duty grading bucket, and dual-ram hydraulic angle tilt buckets. Amulet's tilt bucket line is the most configurable, with 13 configurations across six weight classes. One item in this collection is not a bare attachment: the Katool KT-EX20 is listed as a standalone crawler mini excavator unit with a reinforced welded-steel digging bucket, hydraulic control system and B&S gas engine, aimed at trenching, landscaping and light construction. If you are unsure which bucket fits your machine, send us your excavator's make, model, operating weight and coupler type and we will confirm the mount before you order.
