They mount on the dipper and link pins, or through a quick coupler. The trade-off is precision and cycle time: there is no mast and no free-lift, and every placement happens through boom, stick and curl. That suits intermittent handling around a dig, a delivery or a yard, not repetitive dock work.
The most common buying mistake is treating the forks as the capacity limit. Rated lifting capacity comes from the excavator's own load chart, and it falls off as the load moves away from the machine. A fork frame carries its load forward of the coupler, adding radius before the pallet is even picked up. Read the chart for your machine at the radius, quadrant and boom position you will actually work in, and account for the attachment weight. These four setups are what this listing covers. Measure your dipper pin diameter, link pin diameter, pin centers and the width across the dipper boss before choosing. Pin diameters that match while centers do not is the usual reason an attachment will not pin up on arrival, and it is the same check whether you are fitting mini excavator pallet forks or a larger machine.
Pallet fork frames for excavators come in two broad types. A pin-on or coupler-mounted frame holds the tines on a fixed backing bar with spacing set by hand. A hydraulic pallet fork frame uses an auxiliary circuit to shift tine spread or clamp a load from the cab, which costs more and requires a spare hydraulic function on the machine. Confirm tine adjustment against the spec sheet before ordering.
On the regulatory side, ISO 13031 sets safety requirements for quick couplers on earth-moving machinery, and full engagement should be verified on the ground before every lift. OSHA 1910.178 governs powered industrial trucks, which an excavator is not, so forklift certification does not carry over to fork work on an excavator.
