Shelters, barricades and site equipment covers the fixed and semi-fixed hardware that controls traffic, protects structures and shelters people around a loading dock, yard or plant floor. This collection holds 37 Vestil products, with the least expensive starting at $101: dock barricades and swivel dock gates, mezzanine and self-closing gates, vinyl strip doors, speed bumps and humps, column and corner guards, clearance bars and cable crossovers, plus smoking shelters, picnic tables, flagpoles, planters and sign stands. The fastest way to narrow the list is to decide what you are protecting first — the opening, the vehicle, the pedestrian, or the building itself.

View full detailsThis category groups the hardware that sits between vehicles, pedestrians and your building. Every item here is Vestil, and the range starts at $101. The products fall into four working groups. Dock safety: dock barricades (DJG), swivel dock gates (SDG), dock safety guides (DSR), LED dock guide light sets (DGL), dock traffic systems (DTS) and loading dock guards (LDG). Traffic control: molded rubber speed bumps (SBRY), rubber speed humps (RSH), spiked anti-backup bumps (TSPIKE), stackable poly barricades (BCD), multi-purpose barricades (HG), sign stands, sign base systems, clearance bars (CLB) and aluminum hose and cable crossovers (FHCR). Impact protection: hexagonal column guards (HEX), corner guards (PCG), 90-degree triple elbow guards (TEG), gantry/jib guards (CG), pipe and downspout protectors (DSG) and shelter guard posts (SGP). Openings and site amenities: vinyl strip doors, mezzanine sliding gates, self-closing steel gates (SPG), automatic overhead door locks, smoking shelters, steel mesh picnic tables, flagpoles, planters, tree grates and salt boxes.
These four product types sit at the same door and get confused constantly, but they solve different problems and are not interchangeable. A dock barricade is a vehicle-scale physical block across an open dock door. A swivel dock gate is a personnel barrier that keeps people back from the edge. Dock safety guides are curbs that steer a trailer into position, and guide lights give the driver a visual reference. Buying the cheap one and expecting the expensive one's job is the most common mistake in this category.
| Type | Primary job | Catalog examples |
|---|---|---|
| Dock barricade (DJG) | Physical block across an open door | DJG-100MW manual hand crank, 8 ft, $3,598.30; DJG-100 electric/hydraulic, 8 ft, $5,486.03; DJG-100-10 electric/hydraulic, 10 ft, $5,881.17 |
| Swivel dock gate (SDG) | Pedestrian barrier at the dock edge | SDG-8 pair for an 8 ft door, $805.56; SDG-9 for 9 ft, $865.03; SDG-10 for 10 ft, $922.07 |
| Dock safety guides (DSR) | Guide the trailer into the door | See the product page specification table |
| LED dock guide lights (DGL) | Visual alignment reference for the driver | See the product page specification table |
Order swivel dock gates by door width — the SDG line is sold as a pair matched to an 8, 9 or 10 ft opening, so measure the finished opening rather than the door leaf. For barricades, the manual hand-crank DJG-100MW and the electric/hydraulic DJG-100 cover the same 8 ft opening at very different price points; the deciding factor is usually cycle frequency and who has to operate it. None of this replaces trailer securement: OSHA 1910.178 requires that trailer brakes be set and that wheel chocks or an equivalent means be used to prevent movement while a powered industrial truck boards, and ANSI/ITSDF B56.1 covers safe operation of those trucks more broadly.
Speed bumps and speed humps are not the same device. A bump is short and aggressive, sized for parking lots and yards where you want traffic down to a walking pace. A hump is longer front to back and gentler, intended for through routes where you want a moderate reduction without jarring loaded vehicles. Molded rubber sections are the practical choice for most facilities because they bolt down, come apart for repaving and survive plows better than cast asphalt. The spiked TSPIKE unit is a different animal — it is a one-way enforcement device for controlled entries, not a speed control device, and it should only go where the traffic direction is unambiguous and signed.
For temporary or shifting closures, stackable poly barricades and multi-purpose barricades are the movable layer, with sign stands and sign base systems carrying the message. Worth knowing: FHWA's MUTCD Part 6 sets the requirements for temporary traffic control devices on public roadways. A private yard is outside its scope, but MUTCD shapes and colors are what drivers already recognize, so borrowing those conventions costs nothing and reduces confusion. Inside the building, OSHA 1910.176(a) requires that permanent aisles be marked where mechanical handling equipment is used. Hose and cable crossovers handle the other yard hazard — air lines and power cords across a travel path — by ramping over them instead of taping them down.
Impact guards are the cheapest insurance in a warehouse. A column guard costs a fraction of what it costs to have a structural engineer assess a struck building column, and downspout protectors and pipe guards prevent the slow-drip damage that nobody reports until there is standing water. Match the guard to the geometry: hexagonal column guards wrap a freestanding column, corner guards protect a wall return, 90-degree triple elbow guards cover the point where two walls and a floor meet, and shelter guard posts protect a structure such as a smoking shelter that sits in a drive path. Clearance bars belong at any canopy, dock canopy or overhead door where a box truck could try to enter — they are meant to be struck. On color: OSHA 1910.144(a)(3) designates yellow as the basic color for marking physical hazards, which is why most guarding is specified in safety yellow.
Vinyl strip doors buy you temperature separation, dust control and noise reduction at an opening that has to stay usable. The variables that matter are strip width and thickness, the percentage of overlap between strips, whether the vinyl is a standard or low-temperature formulation, and whether the mounting hardware is wall-mount or universal. The strip door offering here is split into four groups because the sizes and configurations differ — check the specification table on the group you are looking at rather than assuming they are the same product in different sizes. Ribbed strips are the usual pick where forklifts pass through constantly, since the ribs take the scuffing and keep the sightline clearer for longer.
Gates cover the other openings. The MEZZ-SG-54 mezzanine sliding gate suits a 54 in opening width at $947.47, and self-closing steel gates (SPG) are adjustable-width units for stair and platform openings. If a gate is standing in for a guardrail at an open-sided floor, OSHA 1910.29(b) is the governing criterion — a top rail 42 inches, plus or minus 3 inches, above the walking surface, capable of withstanding 200 pounds of force applied downward or outward — so compare the gate's published dimensions against that requirement before you install it.
The site amenities in this category are the same specification exercise with different stakes. The SSH-7939-80 smoking shelter is $2,069.90; where it can legally sit is set by your state smoke-free air law and local fire code, not by OSHA, and the usual constraints are distance from doors, operable windows and air intakes — confirm the local rule before you pour a pad. Steel mesh picnic tables come in 16 models from 30 x 72 in to 30 x 96 in, priced $986.90 to $1,139.88; if a table needs to serve as accessible seating, the 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design address dining surface height and knee clearance, so check the specification table against them. Stainless flagpoles are offered as the FLP-20-SS at 20 ft for $1,615.38 and the FLP-25-SS at 25 ft for $1,984.97, and the U.S. Flag Code covers display etiquette.
Before ordering anything in this category, settle three things: the exact opening or footprint dimension, the anchoring surface and its condition, and who installs it. Most of this equipment anchors into concrete, and a slab that is thin, cracked or freshly poured will limit your options more than the product will. Where Vestil publishes a specification table on these products, it lists Made in USA (Vestil Manufacturing) origin and a 1-Year Limited warranty — read the table on the specific model rather than assuming it applies across the whole category.
