Mini Skid Steer Buckets

Mini skid steer buckets do the everyday work of a compact loader — moving soil, gravel, mulch, snow and debris — and the right one depends on what you handle and how you unload it. This collection carries six mini loader bucket attachments from Loflin Fabrication and Star Industries, priced from $287 to $1,902, in working widths from 36" to 48" depending on model. Options include low profile grading buckets, hydraulic front dump buckets, a 4-N-1 bucket and a snow and litter bucket, all on mini skid-steer quick-attach mounts. Check your machine's mount pattern and auxiliary hydraulic flow before ordering.

Mini Skid Steer Bucket Options: Matching the Bucket to the Work

Most buyers shopping mini loader bucket attachments are choosing between four jobs: bulk material handling, grading and back-dragging, high-lift dumping, and moving light bulky material like snow or litter. The six buckets here cover those cases. The Loflin Fabrication Mini Skid Steer Low Profile Bucket is the general loading and grading tool, with 3/16" steel sides and bottom, a 1/2" wear bar and a replaceable 1/2" thick by 4" wide cutting edge, in 36", 42" and 48" working widths with custom options available. The Loflin Fabrication Mini 4-N-1 Bucket combines bucket, dozer blade, grapple and box scrape/back-drag functions in one attachment on dual 2" x 6" hydraulic cylinders — worth the money when you would otherwise swap tools several times a day. The two front dump models solve unloading problems a standard bucket cannot, and the Star Industries Heavy Duty Mini Skid Steer Bucket rounds out the lineup as the second brand carried.

Hydro and Front Dump Buckets for Mini Skid Steers

A hydro bucket — a mini skid steer bucket with a hydraulically actuated dump — tips forward at the end of the arm instead of relying on the loader arms alone. That buys you height and reach at the moment of discharge, which is the difference between reaching over a dumpster wall and shoveling out of a pile you just made. The Loflin Fabrication Mini Front Dump Bucket adds 19 inches of dump height and 21.5 inches of forward reach, and is built with heavy-duty steel, a powder-coated finish, oversized greasable pins and pre-assembled Parker hose assemblies and fittings. The Loflin Fabrication Mini Skid Steer Front Dump Bucket is offered in 36" to 48" sizes with 3/16" thick steel and a 3/4" x 30" welded wear edge. Both are American-made. Any hydraulic dump bucket requires a working auxiliary hydraulic circuit at the attachment plate — confirm your machine has one, and confirm the coupler style matches before you order.

Mini Snow Buckets and Light Material

A mini snow bucket is sized by volume rather than by weight. Snow, leaves, mulch and litter are low-density, so the practical limit is cubic capacity and how far out the load sits, not the machine's lift ceiling. The Loflin Fabrication Mini Snow & Litter Bucket comes in 42", 44" and 48" sizes with 3/16" thick sides and bottom, a 1/2" thick by 4" wide cutting edge, heavy gauge steel with double-welded seams, a reinforced back and a rust-resistant powder coating on a universal mini skid steer quick attach. The common mistake is treating a high-volume bucket as a general-purpose one: fill it with wet aggregate or saturated soil and you can pass the machine's rated operating capacity long before the bucket looks full. Keep a smaller, heavier bucket for dense material.

Will These Buckets Fit Your Machine?

Mini skid steer attachments use a smaller mount plate than the full-size skid steer quick-attach interface, so a mini bucket will not hang on a full-size loader without an adapter, and a full-size bucket is too heavy and too wide for a compact tool carrier even if you can bolt it on. Within the mini class, the mount is far more standardized. The Mini 4-N-1 Bucket lists mini skid steer mounts such as Toro Dingo and Bobcat MT50; the low profile and snow and litter buckets use a universal mini skid steer quick-attach system. The low profile bucket is specified for skid steers under 50 horsepower. Measure your mount plate and check your auxiliary hydraulic flow rating in the OEM manual — those two numbers settle almost every compatibility question.

Steel Thickness, Cutting Edges and What Actually Wears

3/16" steel on sides and floor is the working standard in this class, and it is what Loflin uses across the front dump, 4-N-1, low profile and snow and litter buckets. The parts that actually wear out are the cutting edge and the mount plate welds. A replaceable bolt-on edge, like the 1/2" x 4" edge on the low profile bucket, is a consumable you swap in the shop; a welded wear edge like the 3/4" x 30" edge on the front dump bucket trades that serviceability for a heavier leading section. Optional teeth and bolt-on cutting edges are available for the low profile bucket — teeth concentrate breakout force into compacted material, but they leave a scalloped surface, so keep a smooth edge if you also grade with the same bucket. Oversized greasable pins and heat-treated edges, both specified on Loflin's buckets, are the details that decide whether an attachment is still tight after two seasons.

Operating, Safety and Maintenance Notes

OSHA 1926.600(a)(3)(i) requires heavy machinery, equipment or parts held aloft by hoists or jacks to be substantially blocked or cribbed before employees work under or between them — which is the rule that matters every time you change a bucket or grease pins with the arms raised. Note that OSHA 1910.178, the powered industrial truck standard behind forklift certification, does not cover earthmoving equipment, so skid steer and compact loader operators are qualified through employer-provided training rather than a forklift card. For capacity, SAE J818 defines rated operating capacity for skid-steer loaders in relation to tipping load; the number on your OEM spec sheet is what you plan loads around, and the bucket does not change it. Day to day: grease the pins, check hoses and quick couplers for weeping, inspect the mount plate welds, and re-torque the bolts on any replaceable cutting edge after the first few hours of use.
