How to Choose Snow Removal Equipment for Your Machine

Start with the machine, not the blade. Most buyers don't need a dedicated snow vehicle. A forklift, skid steer or compact loader already sitting in the yard can do the job with the right attachment. Before you compare products, answer three questions:

  • What will carry it? A forklift takes a fork-mount plow or pusher. A skid steer or mini skid steer needs an attachment that matches its quick-attach plate. Compact loaders and small tractors take direct-mount IMER blades, and the IMER snow blower is built for the Carry 108HF HYL900 / Tracker 1317 HF mini dumper.
  • What surface are you clearing? Loading docks, parking lots, sidewalks and pavers each favor a different tool and cutting edge.
  • Where will the snow go? If you can push snow into open piles, a pusher or plow works. If you have to lift and carry it away, a bucket is the better fit. If you have to throw it clear of a narrow path, use a blower.

Then check the mount listed on each product against your machine's coupler or model before you order.

Pushers, Plows, Buckets or a Blower: Which Job Is Each For?

Snow pushers have side plates that hold snow in front of the moldboard. That lets you move large volumes in straight runs across lots and yards without spilling snow out the sides. Our full lineup of skid steer snow pushers covers both full-size and mini machines.

Snow plow blades roll snow off to one side. They suit long drives, aisles and roads where you windrow snow along an edge. The IMER blades and the Vestil fork-mount plow fall into this group.

Snow and litter buckets scoop, carry and dump. Pick one when you have to load snow into a truck or stack it in a corner. Because they double as cleanup buckets, they keep working after the season ends.

Snow blowers throw snow clear of narrow paths, roads and industrial walkways. The IMER blower is built for the Carry 108HF HYL900 / Tracker 1317 HF mini dumper, and it has an adjustable blowing direction.

Sizing: Matching Width to Your Machine and Site

The blade or pusher should be at least as wide as your machine's wheel or track path, so you don't drive over the snow you just moved. Going much wider takes more power and traction, especially in wet, heavy snow. Size up only if your machine handles similar loads comfortably.

  • For mini skid steers, look at the 42-, 48- and 60-inch Loflin mini pushers or the 36- to 54-inch mini buckets.
  • For standard skid steers, the Loflin Snow Pusher comes in 72 to 168 inches, with a matching rubber edge and pull-back kit for each width, and the snow and litter bucket comes in 48 to 120 inches.
  • For forklifts, the Vestil models use a 72-inch blade.
  • For compact loaders and small tractors, IMER offers 51- and 63-inch blades.

Also measure your narrowest gate, aisle or dock approach. A pusher that can't fit through your site's tightest point will slow every pass.

Materials, Cutting Edges and Care

The pushers, buckets and plow blades here are built in steel. The Loflin buckets use 3/16-inch steel sides and bottoms with a powder-coated finish. The Vestil fork-mount models have a baked-in powder coat finish and locking pins that hold them on the forks. Vestil and Loflin both list their products as made in the USA.

Choose a rubber edge for pavers, decorative concrete and other surfaces you don't want scratched. Choose a steel edge when you need to scrape packed snow and ice. Reversible edges can be flipped when one side wears, which gets you more life from each edge.

For care, rinse road salt off after each storm. Inspect cutting edges and wear shoes before they wear down to the moldboard. Check quick-attach pins and hoses, and touch up chips in the powder coat to slow rust. In the off-season, store attachments off the ground and under cover.

Brands We Carry

Snow Removal Equipment: Frequently Asked Questions

What snow removal equipment fits a forklift?

A fork-mount plow or pusher. The Vestil Fork Truck Snow Plow / Pusher slides onto your forklift's forks and comes as a 72-inch plow blade, a 72-inch pusher or a 72-inch push box with sides. The attachments need no external power, and Vestil lists them as made in the USA. Check your fork size and your truck's capacity before you order.

Should I get a snow pusher or a snow plow blade?

Get a pusher if you clear wide, open areas like parking lots and yards. Its side plates hold snow in front, so you can move large volumes in straight runs. Get a plow blade if you clear long drives, aisles or roads where you want snow rolled off to one side. Many sites use both: a pusher for open areas and a blade for narrow lanes.

What width snow pusher do I need for a skid steer?

Choose a pusher at least as wide as your machine's wheel or track path, and only go wider if your machine has the power and traction to push the extra load. For mini skid steers, Loflin offers 42-, 48- and 60-inch mini pushers with Toro Dingo or Bobcat MT mounts. For full-size skid steers, the Loflin Snow Pusher comes in widths from 72 to 168 inches.

Is a rubber or steel cutting edge better for snow?

Rubber is better if you need to protect the surface, and steel is better for scraping. A rubber edge is gentler on pavers and decorative concrete. A steel edge scrapes packed snow and ice more aggressively. The Loflin Snow Pusher is offered with a reversible rubber cutting edge or a steel scrape blade, and replacement rubber edges are listed for each pusher width. You can flip a reversible edge when one side wears.

Do you sell used snow removal equipment or complete snow removal vehicles?

No. This collection is made up of attachments for machines you already own, such as forklifts, skid steers, mini skid steers, compact loaders and the IMER Tracker 1317 HF mini dumper. It doesn't include complete snow removal vehicles. Adding an attachment to your existing equipment is usually a practical alternative to buying a dedicated snow machine.

How much does snow removal equipment cost?

In this collection, attachments currently cost from about $785 for the 36-inch Loflin Mini Snow & Litter Bucket to $7,210.50 for the IMER 5123601 63-inch snowplow blade. Vestil fork-mount plows and pushers currently start from about $2,661, and full-size Loflin snow pushers from about $2,289 for the 72-inch width. Replacement rubber edges, skid shoes and pull-back kits for Loflin pushers are listed separately. Check each product page for the current price of your size and mount.
