The RT-PLD-5K is the higher-capacity, rough terrain choice, with treaded solid tires intended for gravel, dirt and unimproved yard surfaces. The PLD PLUS is the lighter unit: powered forward and reverse, with one handle controlling steering, travel and lift, and a large platform with fold-down, extendable side rails. At 1,500 lbs it is sized for carts, hand trucks and hand-loaded freight rather than vehicle traffic.
Surface and grade decide more than capacity does. Soft ground, potholes and slope all affect whether a wheeled dock stays level and positioned against the trailer, which is why the rough terrain tires on the RT-PLD-5K matter outdoors. Walk the actual approach before you buy, not the paved section next to it.
Several rules apply to how the platform gets used. OSHA 1910.28(b)(1) requires fall protection for unprotected sides and edges 4 feet or more above a lower level in general industry, and OSHA 1910.29(b)(1) sets guardrail top rails at 42 inches, plus or minus 3 inches, above the walking surface. If a highway truck will be boarded by a forklift, OSHA 1910.178(k)(1) requires the truck's brakes set and wheel chocks placed under the rear wheels. ANSI/ITSDF B56.1 governs the powered industrial trucks themselves.
The PLD PLUS charges from 110 volts, so confirm a standard outlet reaches wherever the unit parks overnight. Solid tires need no inflation and no flat repairs, which is the practical argument for them on debris-strewn ground. The RT-PLD-5K ships via flatbed only — plan the receiving end, including a forklift or crane and clear space to offload.
