Excavator Rake Attachments

Excavator rake attachments separate roots, brush, rock and demolition debris from soil instead of scooping everything into a bucket. This collection carries one rake: the Amulet HoeMate Multi-Tine Rake at $1,255, built in 3-, 4- and 5-tine models across 10 excavator weight classes from 1-3 ton machines to 30-40 ton machines, with weld-on, wedge, pin-grabber and Wain-Roy mounting.

Excavator Rake Attachments: What They Do Better Than a Bucket

A rake for an excavator works by letting soil and fines fall between the tines while roots, brush, rock and demolition debris stay on the tool. That single difference drives most of the buying decision: with a bucket you haul topsoil to the dump along with the debris, and you pay for both the trucking and the disposal. With a rake you leave the dirt on site. Typical jobs are root raking after a clearing pass, rock picking, storm and windrow cleanup, piling brush for burning or chipping, and sorting wood and steel out of demolition spoil.

Tine count is the main performance trade-off. Fewer tines means wider gaps, more separation, and more down-force concentrated on each tine for packed ground or matted roots. More tines hold smaller material and suit finish and cleanup passes where you do not want to leave debris behind. The Amulet HoeMate is offered in 3-tine, 4-tine and 5-tine models, so choose by the smallest debris you actually need to retain.

Matching a Rake for Excavators to Your Machine and Coupler

Two things have to line up: machine size and mounting. The HoeMate is built for 10 excavator weight classes, from 1-3 ton mini excavators up to 30-40 ton machines, and Amulet lists fitment by excavator make and model, so check your model against that list rather than going by tonnage alone. Mounting comes four ways: a blank weld-on plate only, a wedge-style coupler, a pin-on / pin-grabber-style coupler, and a Wain-Roy / cross-pin-style coupler. Across sizes, models and mounts there are 17 configurations, all at $1,255.

The blank plate is the cheaper path only if you already have a shop. Someone has to fabricate a bracket and weld it to your pins or coupler, so add that labor to the comparison before it looks like a savings.

Operating and Maintenance Notes

Rakes usually fail from side loading, not from lifting. Twisting the stick to snap a root, or dragging the tool sideways to windrow, bends tines and puts stress into the boom and coupler that the machine was not designed to take. Pull toward the machine, curl, lift. Attachment weight also counts against your excavator's lift chart at reach, so re-check the chart if you plan to pick and carry rather than just rake. Inspect weld seams, pin bores and coupler engagement before each shift. OSHA 1926.602 covers material handling equipment used in construction, including earthmoving machines such as excavators.
