Forklift boom attachments let a fork truck do crane work — lifting, placing and moving suspended loads without renting a mobile crane. This collection carries 18 forklift booms from Vestil, Star Industries and Abaco Machines, priced from $270 to $5,149: fixed-length and telescopic jib booms, carriage-mounted Lift Master booms, hydraulic powered booms, plus reel, drum and multi-purpose lifting attachments. Below the product grid you will find how the boom options differ, how reach affects the load you can actually pick up, and what to check on your truck's carriage and capacity plate before you order.

A forklift boom converts the lifting force at the end of your forks or carriage into a single hook point out in front of the truck. Instead of a pallet sitting tight against the backrest, the load hangs from a hook or shackle somewhere between a few feet and a dozen feet away. That is what makes booms useful: they reach over obstacles, into truck beds, down into pits, and place awkward items — machinery, tanks, bundled pipe, engines, stone slabs, precast — that will never sit flat on forks. It is also what makes them the attachment buyers most often size incorrectly, because the further the hook goes out, the less the truck can safely carry.
Most people searching for a forklift boom, a fork truck boom or a forklift jib boom are describing the same family of tool. The differences that matter commercially are how it mounts, whether the reach is fixed or adjustable, and whether it moves under its own hydraulic power.
The simplest and cheapest option. Reach is set, so the rated load is set, and there is nothing to adjust in the field. The Star Industries Fixed Length Forklift & Telehandler Jib Boom (model 1360B-5FXL) is a straightforward example: 6,000 lb capacity, 5 ft of fixed reach, with fork pockets 30 in. long by 7½ in. by 3½ in. ID on 24 in. centers. Fixed booms suit repetitive work where the load and the reach do not change day to day.
An adjustable boom trades some price and weight for flexibility. The Star Industries Telescopic Forklift & Telehandler Jib Boom (model 1360B) adjusts from 7 ft to 12 ft, is rated 2,000 / 6,000 lbs depending on the setting used, weighs 585 lbs empty, and mounts to the forks without permanent modification to the truck. Its published horizontal center of gravity moves from 36 5/16 in. retracted to 54 7/16 in. fully extended — a useful reminder that extending the boom loads the truck harder even before you hook anything on. Abaco Machines also lists telescopic and swing-arm designs, including the Telescopic Forklift Boom ATFB25 and Swing-Arm Forklift Boom AFJS25.
Carriage-mounted booms bolt or hook directly to the carriage rather than sliding over the forks, which keeps the load closer to the truck and removes any chance of the boom shifting on the fork blades. Vestil's Carriage Mounted Fork Truck Booms cover 4,000 – 6,000 lb capacity across four models from $1,056.37 to $1,419.01, and are built for specific ITA carriage classes — LM-CM2-EBT-4 for Class 2 and LM-CM3-EBT-4 for Class 3. Check your carriage class before ordering; it is the most common source of a returned attachment.
Yes, powered extension exists. Vestil's Hydraulic Powered Fork Truck Booms run to 8,000 lb capacity, with the listing spanning $357.74 to $4,990.79 across five models and options. These tie into an auxiliary hydraulic circuit on the truck, so confirm you have a spare function, the right couplers and adequate flow before specifying one. If your truck has no auxiliary hydraulics, a manual telescopic boom is the practical answer.
Two ratings apply to every boom job, and the lower one governs. The first is the boom's own structural rating. The second is what your forklift can lift with that boom attached at that reach — always less than the capacity stamped for a standard 24 in. load center. Star's fixed jib illustrates the principle with its own published figures: the boom is a 6,000 lb device, but its rated maximum load at each hook position — 4 ft, 7 ft, 9 ft and 12 ft — is 2,000 lbs. The steel is not the limit at reach; the moment is.
Under OSHA 1910.178(a)(4), a truck's capacity, operation and maintenance instruction plates must be changed to reflect any front-end attachment, and modifications affecting capacity or safe operation require the manufacturer's prior written approval. In practice that means a call to your truck's dealer for a derated capacity plate covering the boom you buy. ANSI/ITSDF B56.1, the safety standard for low and high lift trucks, likewise addresses attachment marking and the operator's responsibility to know the derated capacity. Do not eyeball it.
Not everything in this collection is a hook on a stick. The Vestil Fork Truck Reel Attachment (FRA-4-238, $270.15) handles cable and wire reels — the least expensive item here and a common first purchase for electrical contractors and utility yards. The Vestil "Skid Loader" Multi-Purpose Lifting Attachment (MPLA-58-3000, $843.90) is rated 3,000 lb capacity. Vestil also lists Portable Hydraulic Drum Carrier/Rotator/Booms for drum work, a Fork Truck Snow Plow / Pusher for yard clearing, and Orbiting, High Rise and Shorty Lift Master (LMS) booms for specific reach and headroom situations. Abaco's TPS 3-in-1 boom (ATPSF35) targets slab and stone handling.
Before you order, have four numbers in hand: your truck's rated capacity and load center, your carriage class (or fork blade width and thickness for fork-mounted booms), the heaviest load you will hook, and the reach you actually need — not the longest reach available. Then confirm the retention method. Fork-mounted booms need a positive retaining device such as a set screw or chain to the carriage; a boom that can slide forward under load is a genuine hazard. Vestil items in this collection are made in the USA and listed with a 1-Year Limited warranty. If your application involves hooks, slings and suspended loads, note that ASME B30.9 covers slings and OSHA 1910.184 governs sling use in general industry — the rigging below the hook is a separate purchase and a separate inspection routine from the boom itself.
