Casters and wheels decide how easily a cart, rack, or work platform moves — and how much floor damage, noise, and operator strain it creates along the way. This casters and wheels collection carries 24 Vestil products from $100 to $1,879: polyurethane, phenolic, cast iron/semi-steel, TPR, mold-on rubber, and kingpinless glass-filled nylon casters, plus replacement wheels and the wheel-side equipment that works with them — wheel chocks, trailer wheel locks, alignment curbs, steel and aluminum wheel risers, and wheelchair ramps. Compare by load per caster, floor surface, swivel configuration, and mounting pattern before you order.

Start with load, not price. Add the weight of the cart or platform to the heaviest load it will ever carry, then divide by the number of casters. Many engineers divide by one fewer caster than the unit actually has, because an uneven floor routinely puts three of four casters in contact and the fourth in the air. That figure is the minimum per-caster capacity you should shop for.
Next, look down. Smooth sealed concrete, epoxy, tile, expansion joints, dock plates, gravel yards, and floors with chips or debris all reward different wheel materials. A hard wheel rolls with less effort but transmits every irregularity to the load and the operator; a softer wheel absorbs shock and protects the floor but takes more force to start moving. Then check the environment: wash-down areas, oil and solvent exposure, ovens or freezers, and outdoor use all narrow the material list quickly.
Finally, confirm the mounting. Top plate dimensions and bolt-hole pattern, stem type and thread, swivel radius, and overall mounted height all have to match the existing equipment — a replacement caster with the right capacity and the wrong plate is still the wrong caster. The Institute of Caster and Wheel Manufacturers (ICWM), a division of MHI, publishes the test procedures that most US caster load ratings are based on, which is why ratings from different manufacturers are broadly comparable.
This collection covers the main industrial wheel materials. The trade-off is almost always the same one: hardness buys roll efficiency and capacity, softness buys floor protection and quiet running.
| Material | Typical strengths | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Polyurethane | Good capacity with floor protection; resists many oils and solvents; quiet | Tread can take a set if parked loaded for long periods |
| Phenolic | Hard, low roll resistance, tolerates heat and oil | Marks and chips soft floors; transmits shock to the load |
| Cast iron / semi-steel | Highest capacity, tolerates heat and debris | Loud; damages finished floors; heavy |
| Mold-on rubber | Cushioned, quiet, protects finished floors | Lower capacity; higher push effort |
| TPR (thermoplastic rubber) | Non-marking, quiet, good for indoor light and medium duty | Not for high heat or heavy sustained loads |
| Glass-filled nylon | Corrosion-resistant, washdown-friendly, very hard | Hard on floors; little shock absorption |
| Ductile steel / metal alloy | Severe-duty and towline use, impact tolerant | Overkill and floor-damaging for general cart duty |
Most carts use two rigid and two swivel casters, which tracks straight and turns predictably. Four swivel casters make a unit that can move sideways in tight aisles but wanders on ramps and long pushes. All-swivel steering is the idea behind the Vestil All Wheel Steer Truck (AWST-3672-PU), a 36 x 72 in. deck rated 3,600 lb at $1,878.77.
Kingpinless casters — including the upgraded glass-filled nylon (RX) casters here — replace the riveted kingpin with a raceway design, removing the single component that most often fails under repeated impact and towline duty. If you are replacing swivel casters on the same equipment every year, kingpinless is usually the fix. Fold-down caster options for work platforms and spring-loaded towing casters address a different problem: equipment that needs to roll for repositioning but sit solidly on the floor or on legs while in use.
Trailer restraint belongs on the same page as wheels because it is the same failure mode — something rolling that should not be. OSHA 1910.178(k)(1) requires that the brakes of highway trucks be set and chocks placed under the rear wheels to prevent trucks from rolling while they are being boarded by powered industrial trucks. Urethane, rubber, aluminum, and ergo-handle chocks in this collection cover that requirement in different weights and grip styles; trailer wheel locks (TWL) add a positive mechanical restraint where chocks alone are not enough.
Wheel risers raise a vehicle's wheels to give service access without a full lift. Aluminum tread risers such as ATWR-18-6-48 start at $621.46, and steel risers with a central fork pocket are built to be repositioned by forklift — which means the person moving them falls under OSHA 1910.178(l) operator training requirements for powered industrial trucks.
Wheel alignment curbs guide drivers into position on a lift or service bay; SWAC-92 is a 92 in. yellow curb at $388.19 and SWAC-144 runs 144 in. at $442.80. Wheelchair ramps in this collection include the telescopic D-TR-72 (72 in., $436.57), D-TR-88 (88 in., $546.89), and the fold-a-way D-FAR-120 at 120 in., $495.33. Ramp length drives slope: the ADA 2010 Standards for Accessible Design limit the running slope of a permanent accessible ramp to 1:12, so measure your rise before choosing a length.
Order replacement casters in matched sets when you can — mixing tread materials or mounted heights on one cart puts uneven load on individual wheels and makes the unit track badly. Once in service, the maintenance list is short: check for thread wrap around the axle and swivel, look for flat spots or tread separation, confirm swivel raceways still turn freely, and re-torque mounting bolts after the first few weeks of use. Rising push effort is usually the first symptom of a bearing or tread problem, and it is worth acting on before it becomes an ergonomic complaint.
The Vestil lines documented in this collection — including the AWST truck, steel and aluminum wheel risers, wheel alignment curbs, and wheelchair ramps — are listed as Made in USA by Vestil Manufacturing with a 1-year limited warranty. Check the specification table on the individual product page for the exact model, size, and capacity before ordering.
