What Car Lift Accessories Do, and When You Actually Need Them

Most shops buy car lift accessories for one of three reasons: the lift no longer reaches the vehicles coming through the door, the contact points are worn or wrong for a particular chassis, or the installation itself needs to change — more height, more width, a longer runway, or the ability to roll the lift out of the way. Accessories solve those problems without replacing the lift.

The practical dividing line is between consumables and structural kits. Consumables are the parts that wear: screw pads, arm pads, rubber contact surfaces. Lifting Points, Pads and Frame Contact

The single most common mistake with two-post lift accessories is treating a pad as a spacer. Screw pads adjust for modest differences in pinch-weld or frame height; frame cradle pads such as the AMGO 20802 and the heavy-duty 21103 spread load across a frame rail. Stacked height extension adapters raise the contact point further, but every inch added raises the vehicle's center of gravity relative to the arms and reduces the margin for a misplaced pad.

Lifting points are set by the vehicle manufacturer, not by the lift.
