What load capacities are available?
Two capacities are offered: 1,000 lb and 2,000 lb. Every width in the range is built in both, so you can choose the span first and the capacity second. Model numbers beginning SBM-10 are the 1,000 lb units and SBM-20 are the 2,000 lb units. If your load is heavier than 2,000 lb, no model in this series will handle it.
What beam widths can I get, and how do I choose?
Six widths are listed: 3, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 feet. Combined with the two capacities, that makes the 12 models shown, from SBM-10-3-ML at 3 ft up to SBM-20-12-ML at 12 ft. Pick the width against the length of the load and the clear space in your bay, not against weight alone.
What kind of material will these pick up?
Ferrous material only. The beam lifts magnetically, so the load has to be steel or iron with a clean, flat surface the magnets can seat against. Aluminum, non-magnetic stainless grades, plastics and heavily scaled or coated surfaces are not suitable. Flat plate, sheet and structural stock are the usual loads. The product data does not list magnet ratings by material thickness.
How do prices differ across the models?
Prices run from $1,297.12 to $1,952.19 across the 12 models. The 3 ft, 1,000 lb SBM-10-3-ML is lowest at $1,297.12 and the 12 ft, 2,000 lb SBM-20-12-ML is highest at $1,952.19. Width matters more than capacity in the middle of the range: SBM-10-12-ML at $1,764.09 costs more than the 2,000 lb, 8 ft SBM-20-8-ML at $1,713.67.
Where are they made, and what coverage comes with them?
They are made in the USA by Vestil Manufacturing and carry a 1-Year Limited warranty. That is the only coverage stated in the product data for this series. The listing covers the beam itself in the model, capacity and width shown; rigging above the beam, such as hooks, shackles or slings, is not included.
Is there anything I should check before each lift?
Yes. A magnetic spreader beam is a below-the-hook lifting device, a category ASME addresses in its B30.20 standard covering marking, inspection and operator practice. Before lifting, confirm the magnet faces are clean and undamaged, keep the load within the model's rated capacity, and follow your site's own lifting procedures.
