FAQ about this model
How much can the EK40D lift, and at what load center?
The EK40D is rated at 8,500 lbs at a 24 in load center. Capacity drops as a load's center of gravity moves further from the fork face, so anything whose center sits beyond 24 in derates the truck. Forks measure 42.1 x 5.9 x 1.9 in. Check your heaviest pallet against both figures before ordering.
What are the lift heights, and what overhead clearance do I need?
Maximum lift height is 185 in, with 37.9 in of free lift. Lowered mast height is 86.2 in, and overall height with the forks fully raised is 234 in. Use the 86.2 in figure for doorways and trailer entry while traveling, and the 234 in figure for the clear roof height needed at full lift.
What is the footprint, and will it fit my aisles?
Overall width is 52.9 in, and overall length is 157 in with forks or 112 in without. Wheelbase is 70.8 in and service weight is 11,519 lbs. Add your load length to the 112 in figure when estimating aisle and turning requirements, and confirm your floor or dock plate can carry the truck plus its load.
What engine does it use, and what does that mean for fueling?
It uses a Mitsubishi 4EG diesel engine rated 49 HP at 2250 rpm. Being diesel, there is no charger or battery-swap infrastructure to plan for beyond the 12V / 80Ah starting battery, but you do need on-site fueling. Travel speed is 10.3 mph loaded and 11.2 mph unloaded. Exhaust makes it unsuited to enclosed spaces without ventilation.
What tires does it have, and what surfaces does it handle?
It runs solid pneumatic tires, 250-15-16PR front and 6.50-10-10PR rear. Solid pneumatics cannot puncture, which suits yards, gravel, and mixed indoor/outdoor duty. Minimum ground clearance at the mast is 4.7 in, so check steep ramp crests, raised thresholds, and deep ruts on your site. The service brake is a hydraulic floor pedal.
Who is this forklift for, and who should look elsewhere?
It fits outdoor and yard operations — lumber, masonry, freight, construction — handling loads up to 8,500 lbs where diesel refueling is practical. It is a poor choice for food handling, cold storage, or enclosed warehouses, where electric trucks are the norm. OSHA requires operators of powered industrial trucks to be trained and evaluated before they use one.
