FAQ about this model
What load can the HPG-2 handle?
It is rated for 2 tons, or 4,000 lbs. That figure is the maximum working load for the clamp itself, so the plate weight, plus any rigging attached to it, must stay at or below it. Your hoist, sling and lifting eye all need to be rated for the same load or higher. If you spread a plate across more than one clamp, confirm how the weight is actually shared before relying on the combined rating.
What plate thickness does the jaw fit?
The jaw opening is 0 to 1.5 inches, so it grips plate from very thin stock up to 1.5 inches thick. Anything thicker will not seat in the jaw and should not be lifted with this clamp. Measure the plate at the point where the clamp will actually sit, not at a rolled or ground edge, since thickness can vary along a plate.
Is this clamp for horizontal lifting only?
Yes, it is a horizontal plate clamp, built to pick up and carry plate lying flat. It is not intended for lifting plate on edge, turning it upright, or rotating a load in the air. If your job involves vertical lifting or upending, you need a vertical clamp instead. Choosing by orientation matters more than capacity here, because the gripping action is designed around a flat plate.
How heavy is the clamp and what is it made of?
It weighs approximately 15 lbs and is made of high-strength alloy steel. At that weight one person can carry it to the work area and set it on the plate by hand, without a second lift or a cart. The alloy steel body is what allows a unit this size to carry 4,000 lbs, so the clamp stays easy to reposition between picks.
What warranty and standards apply?
The clamp carries a 12 month warranty and is built to comply with ASME B30.20, the ASME standard covering below-the-hook lifting devices. That standard is the reason inspection matters: check the jaw and gripping surfaces for wear, cracks or deformation before use, and take the clamp out of service if the jaw no longer holds cleanly on a test lift. Follow your site's own inspection program.
