A two-post lift raises the vehicle by its frame or pinch welds and leaves all four wheels hanging free, which is what you want for brake, suspension, exhaust and driveline work. Scissor lifts trade some under-vehicle access for a much smaller footprint and a cleaner bay when they are not in use. Matching Capacity to the Vehicles You Actually Lift

Rated capacity is the first filter, and the rule is simple: the lift's rating must cover the heaviest vehicle you expect to put on it, not the average one. Half-ton and three-quarter-ton pickups, van conversions, and anything with a service body or upfit weigh considerably more than the passenger cars in the same bay, so shops buying for mixed work usually step up rather than sizing to today's typical job.

Read the rating carefully on multi-vehicle equipment. The AMGO 409-DP is listed at 9,000 lbs total but 6,000 lbs per vehicle — a total figure and a per-position figure are not interchangeable. Weight distribution matters as well: a lift's rating assumes the load is positioned as the manufacturer intends, which is why arm placement on a two-post and vehicle centering on a four-post are part of rated performance, not optional technique.

Car Lift Dimensions and Shop Space

Car lift dimensions decide whether a model fits your building before capacity ever comes into play. The four figures to check are overall length including ramps, overall width, maximum lifting height, and minimum (lowered) height. Verified dimensions for several models in this collection:

Ceiling height is the constraint people underestimate. The PRO-30, PRO-30E, PRO-40 and PRO-40E all have an overall height of 92", and you still need clearance above that for the tallest vehicle you will raise, plus room for lights, doors, heaters and sprinkler heads. Minimum height matters at the other end: the AX-12A drops to 12" and the AX-16A to 13", which determines whether low-clearance vehicles can be driven or rolled on without ramp extensions.

Parking Lift for Car Storage and Stacked Bays

Confirm the power unit's voltage and phase against your shop supply before ordering, since single-phase and three-phase versions of otherwise identical lifts are common. Inspection, Maintenance and Operator Practice

Day to day, that means checking that locks audibly engage on the way up, that arm restraints and adapters are in good condition on two-post lifts, that cables and chains on four-post and parking lifts are equalized and lubricated, and that nothing is stored under a raised vehicle.
