Buy capacity against the heaviest vehicle you actually service, not the average one. A 9,000 to 10,000 lb heavy duty car lift handles most passenger cars, crossovers and half-ton pickups; 12,000 lb and up is for duallies, cargo vans and light commercial vehicles. Ceiling Height and Lift Height

Measure to the lowest obstruction in the bay — a garage door track, light fixture or beam — not to the peak of the ceiling. Mid-Rise and Scissor Alternatives

If ceiling height or a rented slab rules out a two-post, the mid-rise and scissor units in this collection cover a lot of the same work. Shoppers searching for an automotive double scissor lift are generally after full-rise scissor designs, which reach closer to two-post working heights while folding nearly flat; the Katool KT-X99 is a 7,700 lb full-rise hydraulic scissor lift.
