FAQ about this model
What is the maximum load capacity of this clamp?
The Bison HPG-5 is rated for 5 tons (10,000 lbs / 4536 kg). This is the maximum working load and applies when the clamp is used within its designed horizontal lifting and transport orientation. Do not exceed this rating regardless of plate size or thickness.
What plate thicknesses will this clamp grip?
The jaw opening ranges from 0 to 2.5 inches (0 to 63 mm), so it accommodates steel plate within that thickness range. Measure your plate stock against this range before ordering, since anything thicker than 2.5 inches will not fit in the jaw.
Can this clamp be used for vertical lifting?
No. This clamp is designed and rated for horizontal lifting and transport only. Using it in a vertical lifting application falls outside its intended orientation and is not supported by the specifications.
How much does the clamp itself weigh?
The clamp has a net weight of approximately 30 lbs (13.6 kg). This is useful for factoring into total rigging weight when calculating crane or hoist capacity for your lift.
What is the clamp made of and how does it grip the plate?
It's built from forged high-grade alloy steel with an industrial-grade protective coating. Gripping is handled by a spring-loaded cam with a positive lock mechanism, which engages the plate edge and holds it during horizontal handling.
Does this clamp meet any recognized standard?
Yes, it complies with ASME B30.20, the standard covering below-the-hook lifting devices. It also carries a 12-month manufacturer warranty.
