FAQ about this model
How much weight can this lift hook handle?
Model 1366 is rated at 6,000 lbs. Star Industries offers this lift hook across a range of capacities from 6,000 to 22,000 lbs, so buyers with heavier loads should specify a higher-rated model rather than exceeding the 6,000 lb rating. Remember that the attachment rating is separate from your forklift's own capacity, which is reduced whenever an attachment is fitted.
Will it fit my forklift's forks?
It fits tines that pass through fork pockets measuring 6¾" x 3" inside diameter, spaced 20" center to center with the fork opening open. Measure the width and thickness of your tines and your carriage spread before ordering. Tines thicker or wider than the pocket ID will not slide in, and unusually wide spreads may not reach the pockets.
What are the dimensions and shipping weight?
The hook measures 29" wide, 9¾" high and 24¼" long, with a net weight of 105 lbs. At that weight it is not a one-person lift off the ground; plan on two people or use the forklift itself to position it. The compact length also means it stores easily on a rack or shelf between jobs.
How does it attach to the forklift or telehandler?
It slides onto the fork tines and is secured with retaining pins and safety chains. No hydraulic or electrical connection is involved. Fit both pins and both chains every time so the hook cannot slide forward off the tines under load. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) also requires that forklift attachments be approved by the truck manufacturer before use.
Does it require hydraulics or any power supply?
No. This is a purely mechanical attachment with no hydraulic lines, electrical connections or moving powered parts. That keeps installation to a few minutes and means it works with any forklift or telehandler whose tines fit the pockets, including trucks with no auxiliary hydraulic circuit. Maintenance is limited to inspecting the welded steel body, hook, latch, pins and chains.
What type of hook is fitted, and what is it suited to?
It uses a swiveling hook with a safety latch, so slings, chains or lifting eyes can rotate to align with the load and the latch helps keep rigging from coming off the hook. This suits general below-the-fork lifting of loads within the rated capacity. It is not intended for suspended personnel, towing, or pulling loads sideways.
