Drum handling equipment covers the trucks, lifters, positioners, pumps and disposal tools that move a 30- or 55-gallon drum without putting the load on a worker's back. This collection lists 38 Vestil products grouped by the motion you need: rolling a drum across a floor, lifting and rotating it, clamping it to a forklift, pumping or heating the contents, or deheading and crushing the empty. Sort first by how the drum is handled, then by power source — manual, pneumatic, hydraulic or electric — and by whether the equipment has to survive washdown or rough terrain.

A filled drum is an awkward, top-heavy, rolling load, and almost every product here exists to replace one specific manual motion. Drum trucks and cradles tilt a standing drum back onto two wheels so one person can roll it across a floor. Low-profile drum caddies keep the drum upright for short repositioning moves and, in the Vestil version stocked here, put a bung wrench in the handle. Positioners and rotators turn a drum between vertical and horizontal for dispensing or sampling. Hydraulic drum dumpers lift a drum and invert it into a hopper, bin or mixer. Gripper attachments let a forklift or rough-terrain machine clamp and carry a drum. Pumps, faucets and heaters move product out of the drum. Covers, locks, tie-downs, tiers and stands control the drum in storage or transit. Deheaders, crushers and compactors deal with the drum at end of life. Deciding which of those nine jobs you actually have is the whole selection exercise.
The question that decides power source is not how heavy the drum is, it is how many drums per shift. A maintenance shop that decants a pail of oil twice a day is served by a manual drum truck and a lever-action drum pump. A plant that empties drums continuously wants electric: the Vestil electric drum pump, model EDP, is a 115-volt unit with a 2-inch bung fitting at $1,096.00, and it runs from an ordinary single-phase circuit rather than needing three-phase service. Between those extremes, rotary drum pumps handle repeated transfers with far less operator fatigue than lever action.
The same logic applies to lifting. Vestil's hydraulic drum dumpers are offered with either a 12V DC power unit or a 115V AC power unit as listed options, so the choice comes down to whether the unit stays at a fixed station near power or travels. Utility yards and remote sites are why the gasoline-powered drum crusher exists at all, and the pneumatic 55-gallon drum compactor, model MTC-PNU-55 at $4,245.97, assumes you already have a compressed-air supply at the point of use. Do not buy a pneumatic unit for a corner of the building the air lines do not reach.
Gripper attachments are the part of this category most often bought incorrectly. Two rules matter. First, OSHA 1910.178(a)(4) states that modifications and additions affecting capacity and safe operation shall not be performed without the truck manufacturer's prior written approval, and that capacity, operation and maintenance instruction plates must be changed accordingly. Second, an attachment adds its own weight and pushes the load center forward, so the truck's rated capacity drops — sometimes substantially. Get the revised data plate from the truck manufacturer before the attachment goes into service, not after.
ANSI/ITSDF B56.1 covers the safety requirements for powered industrial trucks and their attachments, and OSHA 1910.178(l) requires employers to train and evaluate operators, including on the attachments fitted to the truck. If instead you are hanging a drum grab from a hoist or crane, ASME B30.20 addresses below-the-hook lifting devices and is the standard your inspection and marking practice should follow. Manual winch-stack and single-drum grip attachments still need a documented pre-use check even though no OSHA powered-truck training rule applies to them.
Contents drive more of this decision than most buyers expect. Chemical compatibility of pump wetted parts, seals and hose is the first check; the poly drum options offered here in 30-gallon and 55-gallon sizes exist because steel is the wrong container for some fluids. Viscous product that will not flow at ambient temperature is what drum heaters are for — trying to pump cold, thick material instead usually damages the pump. Gravity dispensing from a horizontal drum on a stand or tier, using a manual drum faucet, is the cheapest arrangement when the fluid is benign and the volume is low.
Regulated contents add requirements. OSHA 1910.106 addresses the handling and transfer of flammable liquids, including bonding and grounding when Class I liquids are moved between containers. EPA's RCRA container standards at 40 CFR 265.173 require a container holding hazardous waste to be closed during storage except when waste is being added or removed, which is precisely the job of drum covers, bung nut wrenches and drum locks. For over-the-road movement, FMCSA cargo securement rules in 49 CFR 393 govern how drums are restrained on a vehicle — the role of drum tie-downs.
Wheel specification is a real decision, not a trim level. Vestil's multi-purpose drum truck cradle is offered three ways: mold-on rubber (RDBT-MR, $598.07), polyolefin (RDBT-PO, $651.21) and steel (RDBT-SS, $662.86). Mold-on rubber rolls quietly and is easy on sealed and finished floors. Polyolefin resists chemicals and repeated washdown. Steel is for rough, hot or debris-strewn surfaces where a softer tread would cut, embed swarf or flat-spot. Outside on unimproved ground, none of them work well, which is why a rough-terrain gripper attachment is a separate product rather than an option.
Check the rest of the site before ordering: aisle width and turning room for a loaded drum truck, overhead clearance and hopper height for a dumper, and floor drainage if you are crushing or compacting. The washdown upgrade and aluminum drip pan offered for the hydraulic drum crusher exist because residue is a normal outcome of that process, not an exception.
