FAQ about this model
What is the rated capacity, and how do I know my plate is within it?
Rated capacity is 8 tons (16,000 lbs). That is the maximum load for the clamp itself, so the plate weight plus anything carried with it must stay at or below that figure. The clamp is engineered with a minimum 4:1 safety factor. Confirm that your hoist, hook and any rigging above the clamp are rated for the same load.
What plate thickness will the jaw accept?
The jaw opening adjusts from 0 to 1.5 inches, so it grips plate up to 1.5 inches thick and closes down to zero for thin material. Anything thicker will not seat properly in the jaw. Measure at the exact point where you plan to clamp, since scale, coating or mill tolerance can push a nominal thickness past the limit.
Can this clamp be used for horizontal lifting or for turning plate?
No. This model is exclusively for vertical lifting and transport of steel plates. It is not intended for horizontal lifting, flipping or upending. If your process involves carrying plate flat or rotating it from flat to upright, you need a different clamp type. Used as intended, the pivot jaw and cam grip the plate edge in the vertical plane.
Does it need any power supply, and how is it operated?
No power is required; it is a purely mechanical clamp. It hangs from a hoist hook by its integrated lifting shackle, and the jaw is set onto the plate edge. A positive lock system keeps the jaw engaged even when the clamp is not under load, and the self-tightening cam and pivot jaw increase grip in proportion to the weight lifted.
Will it work in a bay with limited overhead clearance?
It uses a low headroom profile, which is designed to preserve usable lifting height in constrained spaces. The integrated shackle connects directly to a standard hoist hook, so no extra sling or adapter is needed between the hook and the clamp. Measure your hook height at its highest point against the plate height you intend to lift.
What standards does it meet, and what maintenance does it need?
It is compliant with ASME B30.20, the standard issued by ASME for below-the-hook lifting devices, and it carries a 12-month manufacturer's warranty covering defects in material and workmanship. Construction is forged alloy steel with heat-treated critical components and a corrosion-resistant industrial finish. Inspect the jaw and cam gripping surfaces for wear before use and keep the pivot clear of debris.
