How much weight can this hoist lift?

It is rated for 2 tons, which is 4,000 lbs or 2,000 kg. That rating is the maximum working load for the hoist itself, so the weight of your load plus any rigging — slings, shackles, spreader bars — has to stay under it. If your typical lifts sit close to 4,000 lbs, choose a higher capacity rather than running the hoist at its limit.

Does it need electricity or compressed air?

No, it is a manual chain hoist operated by pulling the hand chain. There is no motor, cord, battery or air line, so it can be used anywhere you have a suitable anchor point, including outdoor sites, remote locations and shops without power. The trade-off is speed: raising a load is slower than a powered hoist and takes physical effort from the operator.

What does the overload protection actually do?

It prevents the hoist from raising a load heavier than its 2-ton rating. Once that point is reached, the mechanism stops the lift instead of letting the operator keep pulling. Treat it as a safeguard against accidental overloading, not permission to exceed the rating — it does not make the hoist stronger, and you should still know your load weight before lifting.

What are the load chain and hooks made of?

The load chain is G80 alloy steel and the hooks are forged steel. G80 is the standard alloy grade used for overhead lifting chain, and forged hooks are worked from a single piece rather than cast. Both are wear items you should check before each use for stretch, gouges, cracks or a hook throat that has opened up.

What maintenance and inspection does it need?

Inspect it before each use and keep the load chain clean and lubricated. Look for chain stretch, nicks or twisted links, deformed or spread hooks, damaged hook latches, and any slipping or unusual noise while lifting. The American Society of Mechanical Engineers publishes ASME B30.16, the standard covering overhead hoists, which sets out inspection intervals many workplaces follow. Remove the hoist from service if anything looks wrong.

Who is this hoist right for, and who should look at something else?

It suits occasional, low-volume lifting where power is unavailable — machinery installation, engine pulls, farm and maintenance work. It is a poor fit for repetitive production duty or long lifts, where hand-chain effort adds up and an electric hoist is faster. It also assumes an anchor point rated above your load; the hoist's 2-ton rating says nothing about your beam or trolley. Bison Lifting covers it for 12 months.

Warranty

All Bison products are covered by a 12-month warranty from the date of shipment against defects in materials and workmanship under normal use. Bison will repair or replace defective parts at no charge (installation excluded). A return merchandise authorization (RMA) is required before returning any product; items must be shipped freight-prepaid with a written description of the issue. Items returned outside the warranty scope are subject to a 25% restocking fee. Returns are not accepted after 30 days from the date of shipment. Customized items are non-returnable.

How long will it take for my order to ship? When will I receive it?
Most orders are processed within 1-2 business days, starting the business day following the date the order was placed. Once dispatched, standard shipping typically takes an additional 1-5 business days (starting the business day after shipment).
