Every pallet truck here moves unit loads on pallets, but the four families differ in how much work the operator does and how far the load travels. Manual pallet trucks — also called hand pallet jacks or pallet trolleys — lift the forks with a hydraulic pump handle and are pushed by hand. They suit low-frequency work: unloading a trailer a few times a day, moving stock in a back room, spotting pallets in a stockroom. Electric walkie pallet trucks, often searched as self-propelled pallet trucks or walkie pallet jacks, add powered travel and lift so the operator steers rather than pushes. The Eoslift G20 is rated 4,400 lb with a 4.7 in maximum fork height; the EKKO EP20E is rated 4,400 lb and the EP25E 5,500 lb. Rider pallet trucks carry the operator, which pays off on long dock-to-rack runs: the EKKO EP30A and the G66P-Li are rated 6,600 lb, and the center-controlled EKKO EPC30A is rated 5,000 lb. Reach trucks such as the EKKO ER15 series and the stand-up EK18RR put pallets into racking instead of only moving them across the floor.
Power source drives more of the total cost of ownership than the sticker price does. Lithium models in this collection — the EKKO EP20E-Li and EP25E-Li, the G66P-Li rider, the GE-Li series and the GNT GSR40-Li, which the manufacturer specifies with 1.5-hour fast charging — accept opportunity charging during breaks, so one truck can often cover more of a shift without a battery swap. Lead-acid trucks cost less up front but need watering, a dedicated charging area and, in multi-shift operations, a spare battery and the equipment to change it. OSHA 1910.178 sets requirements for battery changing and charging areas, including ventilation to disperse gases and facilities for flushing spilled electrolyte. Voltage and controls tell you what class of work a truck is built for: the G33R-LI series runs a 24V AC drive motor and a 24V lift motor with a Curtis Instrument Controller and electronic power steering. Match battery capacity to your real shift pattern, not to your busiest week.
Weighing while you handle removes a separate trip to the floor scale, which is why electric pallet trucks with scales show up in shipping, waste and recycling, and food operations. Ravas builds most of the weighing equipment in this collection: the 256X hand pallet jack with scale for manual work, the Ergotruck2 electric pallet truck scale at 3,300 lb, the iJack-26 and iJack-40 electric pallet jacks at 2,600 lb and 4,000 lb, and the iCP-32 carriage plate scale, which mounts to a forklift rather than a pallet truck. If you intend to sell or invoice by weight, the question that matters is legal-for-trade status: NIST Handbook 44 sets the tolerances and requirements for commercial weighing devices in the US, and NTEP certification is what state weights-and-measures programs generally look for. Check the individual product page for certification and division size on the model you are considering.
Measure before you buy. Fork length and width decide which pallets a truck can enter: the GMA standard pallet used across US grocery and consumer goods measures 48 x 40 in, and trucks in this collection carry forks such as 42 in on the EKKO EK18RR and the G33R-LI series, 42.125 in on the Ballymore RT-PPJ-5K, and 45.3 in on the EKKO ER15-216Li. Overall width governs aisle work — the EK18RR is 54.72 in wide overall, while the ER15-216Li measures 32.3 in across the body and 59.1 in across the legs. For anything that lifts, check both ends of the mast: the EK18RR reaches 275 in but has a lowered mast height of 96.42 in and 53.15 in of free lift, and free lift is what determines whether it can start a lift inside a trailer or under a low header. Floors matter too. Standard polyurethane load wheels want smooth concrete; for gravel and broken asphalt the Ballymore RT-PPJ-5K is a rough-terrain power pallet jack rated 5,000 lb with a 15 in lift. Washdown, cold storage and chemical areas are where the Vestil stainless steel pallet trucks belong.
Rated capacity always comes with a load center. The EKKO EK18RR and EK18RRL are both rated 4,000 lb at a 24 in load center, and on any truck that lifts, usable capacity falls as the load center moves forward or the forks go higher — read the manufacturer capacity chart for the exact mast you are ordering, not just the headline number. The mistakes that cost buyers most: sizing to the average pallet instead of the heaviest one; ignoring fork entry width, so the forks will not straddle a pallet's stringers (the EK18RR adjusts to 35.04 in); ordering a taller mast than the building or the door opening will take; and forgetting the truck's own service weight, which matters on dockboards, mezzanines and trailer floors. OSHA 1910.178 addresses dockboards, bridge plates and work inside trucks and railcars for powered industrial trucks — confirm your dock equipment's rating covers the loaded truck, not just the pallet.
Electric pallet trucks are powered industrial trucks. OSHA 1910.178 requires employers to train and evaluate operators before they work independently and to re-evaluate each operator at least once every three years; it also requires trucks to be examined before being placed in service, and at least daily where they are in continuous use. ANSI/ITSDF B56.1 is the safety standard covering low lift and high lift powered industrial trucks, and it is the document most manufacturers design to. Manual pallet jacks are not powered industrial trucks, so the OSHA operator training and evaluation requirement does not apply to them, though employers still owe workers instruction in safe handling. Maintenance is modest but not optional: check load wheels and entry rollers for flat spots and chunking, watch for hydraulic seep at the pump and cylinder, keep forks straight and true, and on lead-acid units hold to a watering schedule. Lithium packs remove the watering, but the charger still has to match the pack.
