FAQ about this model
What is the lifting capacity of the Bison BC020 beam clamp?
The rated capacity is 2 Ton, listed as 4000 lbs or 1814 kg. It is built to a 4:1 safety factor, so the design margin is four times the rated load. Do not exceed 4000 lbs. Note that the rated capacity applies to the clamp itself — the beam you hang it from must also be able to carry your load.
What beam sizes does it fit?
It fits beam flange widths from 3.0" to 9.0" (76mm to 229mm). The range is adjustable, so one clamp covers a number of beam sizes within those limits. Measure the flange width of your beam at the exact point where the clamp will sit before ordering. Beams narrower or wider than that range will not seat correctly.
Does it need power or special tools to install?
No. Installation is manual hand-tightening only, with no electrical connection, no air supply, and no power tools required. You position the clamp on the beam flange and tighten the threaded adjustment by hand until it is seated. Because nothing on the clamp is powered, there is no cord to run and no compressed air line to bring to the work area.
What is it made of?
The body is forged alloy steel, with high-strength steel components elsewhere on the clamp. The thread and handle are zinc plated, and the body has a powder coat finish. The load-bearing body is forged rather than fabricated or cast. The plating and coating are surface finishes — they do not change the rated capacity or the flange width range.
How much does it weigh, and can one person handle it?
Net weight is approximately 22 lbs, which is generally a one-person carry. How you get it to beam height depends on your access — ladder, scissor lift, or platform. Keep in mind the 22 lbs is the clamp alone and does not include the hoist, chain, or rigging you attach below it, all of which add to what the beam carries.
What warranty comes with it, and what upkeep does it need?
It carries a 12-month warranty. The model number is BC020, which is worth quoting when you order or ask about parts. Before each use, check the body, threads, and handle for damage, wear, or deformation, and confirm the clamp seats fully on the flange. ASME publishes B30.20 covering below-the-hook lifting devices; follow the inspection requirements your site operates under.
