FAQ about this model

How much can the Bison LH15-G lever hoist lift?

It is rated at 1 1/2 ton, which is 3,000 lbs or 1,500 kg. Treat that as the maximum working load for everything hanging below the hook, not just the object itself. Add up the load plus any slings, shackles or spreader bar before you commit; if the total is above 3,000 lbs, size up to a larger hoist.

What is the standard lift height?

The standard lift is 6.5 ft (2 m) of load chain travel. Measure from your anchor point down to the hook position at the load's lowest point and compare it to that figure. Remember the body of the hoist and any rigging above the hook also consume headroom, so the usable travel in your setup will be less than the overhead distance.

Does this hoist need electricity or compressed air?

No. It is a manual lever hoist, operated by pumping the handle, so there is nothing to plug in or plumb. That makes it practical outdoors, on remote parts of a yard, on service trucks, or anywhere without a nearby power drop. The tradeoff is operator effort: a full 3,000 lb pick takes many lever strokes and is slower than a powered hoist.

Why does it have galvanized chain instead of plain chain?

The load chain is galvanized alloy steel, meaning the alloy chain carries a zinc coating that resists moisture and corrosion better than an uncoated chain. It is the sensible choice for outdoor storage, washdown areas, coastal sites and damp plants where a black chain would start showing rust. The chain still needs regular cleaning, lubrication and inspection to stay serviceable.

How does the brake hold and lower the load?

It uses a dual pawl, Weston-style brake, a load-actuated friction design that sets automatically whenever you stop moving the lever. Both pawls engage the ratchet so the load stays where you left it during a pause. Lowering is done by switching the direction selector and working the lever, which releases the brake in controlled increments. Keep the brake area free of oil and grease.

How is it built, and what warranty comes with it?

The housing is heavy-duty steel and the hooks are forged, heat-treated alloy steel fitted with safety latches, and the hoist carries a 12-month warranty. Lever hoists in the US fall under ASME B30.21, published by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, which calls for the unit to be inspected before use and taken out of service if damage is found.
