How much material does this hopper hold, and how much weight can it carry?

It holds 1/2 cubic yard by volume and is rated for 4,000 lbs of load. Both limits apply independently. Dense material such as scrap metal, sand or wet concrete will hit the 4,000 lb weight limit well before the hopper looks full, while light bulky waste fills the 1/2 cu yd volume first. Check your material's density against both figures.

What are the dimensions, and will it fit through my doors and aisles?

Overall it measures 54" long, 32 3/8" wide and 31 1/2" high. The body tapers: the base is 42" long by 24 7/8" wide, opening out to 52 1/4" by 33 1/2" at the top. Use the overall figures when checking door openings, aisle widths and truck beds, and the base figures when planning floor space where the hopper sits.

How is it handled, and will it fit my forks?

It is carried on forklift forks, and the listed fork clearance is 2 3/4". Measure the thickness of your forks at the heel, which is the thickest point, and compare it to that figure before ordering. Forks thicker than 2 3/4" will not seat properly. Fork length should also be sufficient to support the 42" base.

What is the hopper made of?

It is built from 7 gauge and 1/4" steel and is 100% MIG welded, and it is made in the USA. The heavier 1/4" plate and full welded seams are what allow the 4,000 lb rating and suit the hopper to abrasive or sharp material rather than light-duty use. SKU is HD50.

What forklift do I need to use it safely?

You need a truck rated to lift the hopper's own 436 lbs empty weight plus the material inside it, up to the hopper's 4,000 lb load rating. A loaded hopper also carries its load centre further from the mast than a plain pallet, which reduces what your truck can safely lift. OSHA rules for powered industrial trucks require operating within the truck's rated capacity, so check its data plate.

Who is this size right for, and who should look at something else?

The 1/2 cu yd, 4,000 lb size suits shops, fabrication bays and job sites moving scrap, offcuts, swarf or general waste in moderate batches, where a full-size dumpster is too large to manoeuvre indoors. If you routinely move more material per trip, or your loads exceed 4,000 lbs, choose a larger capacity model instead of overfilling this one.
