FAQ about this model
How much weight can this hoist lift?
The BXH-040 is rated for 400 lbs (181 kg). That figure is the maximum load on the hook, so slings, spreader bars, and any other below-the-hook rigging count toward it. It suits light assembly, maintenance, and general shop lifting. If your typical loads sit close to or above 400 lbs, choose a higher-capacity model rather than working at the limit.
What power supply does it need?
It runs on single-phase electric power at 115V / 60Hz. That is standard North American wall power, so no three-phase service or step-down transformer is required, which makes the hoist practical for small shops and service bays. Have an electrician confirm that the circuit and receptacle you intend to use can support the hoist before installation.
How high will it lift?
Standard lift height is 10 ft, which is the travel of the hook from its top position to its lowest. Measure from your intended mounting point down to the floor or work surface: if that distance exceeds 10 ft, the hook will not reach the load. No longer lift is listed for this model, so confirm availability before ordering.
How is the hoist operated, and what holds the load when the motor stops?
Operation is by pendant control, a hand-held unit on a cable that lets the operator run the hoist while standing clear of the load. Load holding is handled by an electromagnetic brake, which engages automatically when the control is released or power is lost, so the load stops and stays in position rather than drifting down.
What happens if the load is too heavy?
An integrated friction clutch mechanism provides overload protection. If the load exceeds what the hoist is built to handle, the clutch slips instead of allowing the motor and chain to be driven past their limits. It is a protective device, not a working feature — keep loads within the 400 lb (181 kg) rating rather than relying on the clutch.
How is it built, and does it meet a recognized standard?
The load chain is Grade 80 alloy steel and the housing is aluminum, which keeps the unit lighter for setups that get repositioned. The hoist is built to comply with ASME B30.16, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers safety standard covering overhead hoists. It carries a 12-month warranty. Inspect the chain and hook regularly for wear, deformation, and damage.
