How much weight can these booms lift?
Rated capacities run from 3,000 lb to 8,000 lb depending on the model. The range is built in 3K, 4K, 6K and 8K classes — LM-OBT-3-24 is the 3,000 lb model and LM-OBNT-8-36 the 8,000 lb one. Match the boom rating to your heaviest load, and note that this rating is the boom's limit, not your forklift's.
Do I need to derate my forklift when I fit one of these?
Yes. Under OSHA's powered industrial truck rules, a truck fitted with a front-end attachment must be marked to identify the attachment and show the approved load with it installed. A boom moves the load center forward, so the truck can safely handle less than its plated capacity. Get the derated figure from your forklift manufacturer before putting it to work.
What is the difference between the telescoping and non-telescoping models?
Telescoping models (LM-OBT) extend to change reach, while non-telescoping models (LM-OBNT) are fixed. Both are offered in 24 in., 30 in. and 36 in. fork sizes across the capacity classes. Telescoping costs more at every capacity — LM-OBT-6-24 is $2,788.21 against $2,389.66 for LM-OBNT-6-24. Choose telescoping if your reach changes from job to job.
What power source does the boom need?
These are hydraulic powered fork truck booms, so they run off a hydraulic supply from the truck rather than any separate electrical connection. That means your forklift needs an available auxiliary hydraulic function and hoses that reach the attachment. If your truck has no spare hydraulic circuit, a hydraulic boom is not the right fit for it.
Are fork pockets included, and what size are they?
Fork pockets are listed as separate options rather than bundled with the booms. LM-FP is a fork pocket option sized 8.25 x 4.25, and LM-FP-37 and LM-FP-39 are fork pocket upgrades for the LM booms; each of the three is $357.74. Check your fork dimensions against the pocket size before ordering so the pockets clear your forks.
