Who makes these clamps, and what warranty comes with them?
They are made in the USA by Vestil Manufacturing and carry a 1-Year Limited warranty. That warranty applies to the clamp as supplied. It is a manufacturer warranty, not a service contract, so normal wear from repeated clamping and any damage from overloading beyond the model's rated capacity fall outside what it covers.
What are these clamps used for, and when are they the wrong choice?
They are built to lift plate in the vertical position, clamping onto the plate edge for a hook, sling or crane pick. They are not the right tool if you need to lift plate flat or rotate it from horizontal to vertical, which calls for a different clamp style. Loads above 6,600 lb fall outside this line entirely.
How should a plate clamp be inspected before use?
Check the clamp before each shift and remove it from service if anything is wrong. Look at the jaw and cam gripping surfaces for wear or packed debris, check the pivot points move freely, and reject any clamp with a cracked body, deformed jaw or missing hardware.
