The right ramp depends on what you're moving, how much it weighs, and the height gap you need to bridge. Match the ramp's rated capacity to your heaviest load plus the equipment itself, and check that the length gives you a safe incline for wheeled loads rather than a steep drop-off.
Add up the combined weight of the load and the equipment moving it, including the operator if it's a walk-behind unit. Always choose a ramp rated above that total, not right at it, since dynamic loading during movement adds stress the static number doesn't cover.
Length controls the incline angle. A longer ramp gives a gentler slope, which matters more for wheeled carts, pallet jacks, and forklifts than for foot traffic alone. Measure the height you're bridging and match it against the ramp's rated length before ordering.
Steel ramps hold higher capacities and stand up to heavy container and dock traffic, while aluminum ramps run lighter for easier repositioning and are common for walk ramps and lighter wheeled loads. Pick based on how often the ramp moves and what's crossing it.
Side rails keep narrow-wheeled loads centered on the ramp surface, and a flip-over bridge lets the ramp connect directly to a container or trailer edge without a gap. Choose these options when load control or a secure edge connection matters for your setup.
