Electric or gas power — which fits my setup?

Electric splitters (5-16 ton) run quieter, need no fuel, and work well in garages or near neighbors, but require a power outlet. Gas splitters (20-37 ton) deliver higher tonnage for field use away from outlets and handle higher-volume splitting sessions without duty-cycle limits tied to a cord.

Should I choose a standalone or 3-point splitter?

Standalone splitters are self-contained units you tow or wheel to the woodpile. 3-point splitters mount to a tractor's 3-point hitch and draw power from the tractor's hydraulics or PTO, which suits operators who already own a compatible tractor and want to skip a separate engine.
